It’s rare that I ever buy anything for myself. Honestly I don’t buy much for the wife either, but I do manage to send flowers to her work for no reason every now and then. But beyond an occasional hot dog I just don’t buy things for me. I do enjoy getting Oberweis ice cream a few times a year but I’m always getting it for the whole family so that doesn’t really count.

As I get older, I treat myself a lot more. I'm single, never had kids. If the odds are correct, my older sisters will leave the world first. No women on the horizon....though I keep looking. At 67 I'm starting to spend, not recklessly, but I know I can't take it with me.
I should add that the larger amounts I'm spending are on my property. Upkeep and projects to improve value.

I'm retired, comfortable, and yes, treat myself maybe a bit more than occasionally.

I’ve quit buying firearms, just don’t shoot as much as I used to.
I got into guitars and bought a few, all nice ones, then I finally came to the realization that I had no natural ability to play. I still do play, but I’m standing pat on guitars too. Probably.
Just a couple days ago my wife told me a neighbor was selling a UTV with a pickup box on the back for a screaming good deal. I wanted it, but didn’t have their phone number and dicked around rather than just driving over to their house. It sold quickly and I’ve been kicking myself ever since.
That to say, I’m certainly not opposed to treating myself from time-to-time. My wife tells me that all my interests are expensive, I guess so.

Probably more than I should. We have lived on budget for our younger lives but now that I am retired and can afford certain things, I tell the wife get what you want and need. I buy the occasional gun when I see a good deal but sadly I am seeing more and more and it makes it hard to hide them.

This could be me.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I would have never believed it but we were fairly frugal all of our lives and now that we have plenty of money those well established spending habits really don’t leave you. My wife has a real tough time letting go of the purse strings.
We just had our bi-annual financial meeting and they always produce where they would like us to stay as far as spending per year and there’s no way we will be able to spend that much unless it’s a new car year yet my wife struggles to treat herself. This message has been edited. Last edited by: 1s1k,
