Had a yellow dot in my right eye told cataract surgery would remove it. Had many friends who had the surgery and spoke in glowing terms of the great result they got post-op. Found the doctor most highly recommended and had the surgery. Pre-surgery eye was 20/30 after surgery 20/200 which is legally blind. Doctor told me a very rare result. Since then have learned several friends have had a negative post-op result. Now I want to do everything I can to retain my vision in my left eye which is 20/20. Began wearing safety glasses working outdoors around brush and trimming bushes. Have always worn safety glasses shooting and riding my bicycle. The the glasses are inexpensive. Question is there a brand of shooting glasses / safety glasses that are superior when engaging in outdoor work and shooting? Cost not a factor, need to keep that one good eye from external damage.

Pretty sure they all use the same polycarbonate compound for the lenses. So the differentiator might come down to comfort, find a pair that you will not hesitate to wear due to fit and appearance.

On a side note, it might not be a bad idea to seek a second lens replacement/cateract surgery once you are completely healed, perhaps with a different brand.

Everyone I talked to prior to my LASIK surgery said how well theirs went. After I had mine and it did not go well I heard stories about people going blind. Not one negative prior to mine. My eyes eventually came around but it is similar to you.

I like wearing Oakley Ballistic glasses with the ANSO Z87 rating. If you are a Vet you can get them discounted where the price is reasonable.

I worked with a guy that lost one eye, his dad was using a brush hog and he was far from it built it launched a stick and took out his eye. He wears the Oakleys all the time now after the accident.

At this point, there's more than a few companies that make industrial strength clear, amber, lightly-heavily tinted glasses.

Oakley, Bolle', Esse, et al...

I've been wearing Oakley's for 30+ years and like the quality and fit. I have two sets for playing pickleball; one shaded for sun & one clear for indoors or overcast. I've taken at least three very hard shots directly on the lens with no damage to the lens or to me.

Z87.1 is the regulation for Safety glasses. Using glasses that don’t meet the standard are not safety glasses. The glasses that meet the standard are stamped with the ANSI standard. Anything else is just sunglasses and nothing to do with safety.

+++ SafetyGlassesUSA. I do business with them quite a bit and they are very good. As long as you make sure your choice of eyewear is ANSI compliant, you dont have to pay a lot of $$$ for your glasses.

It's not a brand thing . It's about the rating . Make sure you are buying the real deal .

Back to the original problem, your damaged eye.
I also had a "great" eye surgeon screw up my cataract surgery. I lived with it for a year, then decided to try and do something to see if it could be corrected.
I went to the Cole Eye Institute at the Cleveland Clinic. Within a couple hours they ran tests and gave the results to the Doctor. I went into his office and was told that he already had the answer to my problem.
He scheduled surgery and corrected the problem.
I can't praise the Cole Eye Institute enough or the Doctor I saw there.
In your case I would find the time to pay a visit there to find out if your problem could be corrected.

I also post-surgery went to our eye clinic part of the medical school. They have incredible equipment and doctors see a lot of unusual circumstances. The interior of my eye has been photographed with and without dye. I had a stroke in my called an "occlusion" that destroyed the blood flow to the 1/4 of my eye. When those blood vessels are destroyed they never come back. I have a rare blood cancer from being exposed to Agent Orange and there is a probe by one doctor to see if there is a link. Bottom line for me is I'm a one-eye Jack who will do all I can to keep the vision in my healthy eye. My brain is using just my healthy eye to give me sight.

I’m very sorry to hear about the problems you’ve had from your cataract surgery. I am in the fairly early stages of cataract issues and am starting to think about surgery.

After seeing these posts I’m going to look into the Cole Eye Institute. There are so many benefits to being a member of this forum besides just gun information.

I've had my Oakley M-Frame shooting array set for years with interchangeable lenses and I've been happy with them.

I wear coccoons that go over my regular glasses.
They have lens in different colors and fit without too much squeeze. I love them when clay shooting.
They really help eliminate the glare driving too.

Im s big fan of Oakley. Been wearing them for 34 years now. Saved my eye on one occasion for certain.
Best if all, they’re comfortable.

Just about any safety/shooting glasses will adequately protect your eyes.

The difference, in my experience, is the levels of
optical clarity between the various brands.

I have tried ESS, Revision, Wiley X, and Oakley.

Again, all will do a great job protecting ones eyes.

To me, the brand with the best optical clarity is Oakley. I have an astigmatism and optical clarity is a big thing for me.

I was never an Oakley 'fan boy' and could not get all the hype they were getting back n the late 80's/early 90s.

Fast forward to the early 2000's and I was reading an article written by Pat Rogers. He was talking something and also mentioned eye pro and his eye issues. He was very clear about his satisfaction with Oakley.

I went ahead and purchased a pair of the 'M Frame' model glasses and gave it a go. Those glasses gave me the best clarity with the least amount of perceived distortion (compared to the aforementioned brands).

If I had 202/20 vision and no astigmatism, then just about any decent pair of eye pro would be fine, but, since that is not the case, I go with Oakley.

The rating is the thing. Some guys on the range were shooting 9mm at a plate rack that was too close. All was fine until it wasn.t. There was a lot of spalling and it hit my left eye which was covered. Some of the spalling hit my cheek and hurt a lot. My eye was fine. I am nearly blind in one eye and cannot afford to lose the good one. The glasses were expensive but did the job.

Wanted to add that I have worn Wiley-X too, they have some good protection at lower cost than Oakley (or at least they used to).
