Okay so I'll be driving at 95 MPH in 95 degree heat, dripping with sweat in 95% humidity. AND I'll be the smartest person there! Love it.

These go to eleven.

The best way to drive to Florida from Mass is to stop at Bradley Field and let them do the driving.

I am no expert, but think I am sometimes.

I've done the route twice in the last couple of years.

I know you mentioned leaving at 3 p.m., but if you can swing it, I would leave at 10 p.m. and drive through the night. (I realize this is not workable for some.)

Both times we drove straight through and I took the first shift. The advantage to leaving at 10 or 11 p.m. is that you get through Washington, DC and possibly even Richmond, Va. before people start moving down there.

I'd drive to the Va./N.C. border and let the next driver take over. Our time from BDL to RSW was about 21 hours on the first trip and closer to 23 or 24 hours on the second. There was more traffic on the second trip (in the south), and we stopped more often for breaks. (And we got to see them blow the balloon out of the sky.)

I used Waze for my portion of the driving, and at that time, I went the Parkways in Conn. right over the GWB and down the NJ Turnpike to Maryland. Then Ft McHenry Tunnell to Route 50 to DC and right back to I-95.

For leaving during the day, I'd probably do Tap Bridge to I-287 around the city and hook back into the turnpike.

Evil exists. You can not negotiate with, bribe or placate evil. You're not going to be able to have it sit down with Dr. Phil for an anger management session either.

I don't get it. Bradley field the airport in CT? Perhaps you just mean to fly. But we are driving our bicycles and a bunch of other household stuff down there to our new, soon to be retirement home.

Best highway route to avoid traffic -- rt 287 (Tappan Zee)-->78-->81. 1 or 2 hotel stays and meals.
Option-Amtrack car train. https://www.amtrak.com/auto-train
2 meals included, price goes up from coach to sleeper car.

My wife used the auto train on her last trip, and she says that it would be her first choice on any future trips.

With firearms, try to avoid NJ too...take I-84 to PA; pick-up I-81 at Scranton and head south (spend about 10-15 mins driving through MD), in VA chop over to I-66 to I-95....or go further south on I-81 to I-64 to Richmond and pick-up I-95 there...or go further south to catch I-95 (cut over on another interstate).
