Torn shoulder ligament advice?
My son's tear was fixed with a specialized PT program.

I ripped my labrum in half and broke the bottom part off of my shoulder socket. I know how bad that sucks. If they say you need surgery just do it. It took 4 months for me to get out of the immobilizer, about a year for me to feel normal again, but I’m 100% healed. It was definitely worth it. Pain from the surgery was actually not bad. Didn’t take any of the meds they gave me, ice and the occasional ibuprofen worked great. But mostly ice. And if your dominant arm is the one that’s messed up you’ll be wiping your butt wrong handed and that’s just the worst. But over all I’m very happy I did it

I had a minor separation of my shoulder that didn’t take surgery but did take a year of PT to recover. I had calcified tendinitis in the other shoulder a few years later, shots didn’t work, PT didn't work, minor procedure didn’t work, after two years I finally got advised to try focused ultrasound, which with EM stimulation fixed the problem in 5 treatments. Not covered by insurance, but cost me less than the other useless stuff that was covered by insurance. My advice is try the stem cells first.

Depends on what the MRI shows. Small tears are fairly common as we age, but keep in mind that PT can help quite a bit, but sometimes the tear can get larger and the repair may cause more recovery issues post surgery. Pick your doctor carefully and always get a second opinion if you can. If surgery is the route you choose to go, listen to the doc and follow the recovery plan. Also keep in mind that not all repairs are successful. Best of luck to you.
