Am I better off getting a new AMSEC BF6030 or finding a used commercial safe TL15 or better and converting it hold guns?

It's going to go in my garage on a cement slab.

For me it's all about cost. If you can find something big enough used in the commercial line for a reasonable cost increment including your upgrades, I would go for it. In my case, I did not have the time to look for used so I bought the second largest BF series and I love it.

Also if you are putting it in your garage, look into one of the safe covers. They look like a standard 2 door tall cabinet to the unsuspecting eye.

I have a BF6030 and it's perfect for me. It's set up and ready to go.

I can't speak to the other safe.

I’ve been super happy with the the 7240.

A1abdj was a pleasure to work with while I was shopping

Buy larger than anticipated. If it says 30 rifles, with scopes etc it’s really about 20

Can you provide a link for safe covers? I googled it, but only came up with cloth covers.

Thanks

Since you are in CA, look at Dean Safes. They have some nice used commercial safes for decent money.

They are cloth. The one I saw the friend had the safe in the corner of the garage with a wall on one side and a shelving unit on the other with the cover hanging over the front. It had a magnetic strip on the top and when hung properly, from about 5 feet away looked pretty unassuming.

I have an Amsec BF6636. That was 8 years ago and I need another. It’s stuffed to the gills and the overflow of my cheapest long guns are in bags in the closet. Still have handgun room in the safe. Buy bigger it will fill up

I don’t think the 72 was available or if it was it was way out of my budget. Securitysafe in Hayward got me the best deal around. If I had accesss to a well priced TL15 I’d take that and redo the interior. Depends how big it is.
