7.62mm Crusader |
I had a P51 Mustang as a youngster. It was a Cox fuel engine. I've played with some RC dirt cars which were said to be capable of 100 mph. Reality, I'd say we were hitting 40 to 50 in a huge open lot. I know there are jet powered RC planes but have never heard how fast they fly. I am watching a cool new toy called E Flight V1200. It's electric and said to be capable of 200 mph. Occurs to me that is fast. Not to be flown around wires or trees. Kind if a air Tesla.

According to Google 548mph. No engine.

We have a member here, and I can't recall his screen name right now, but he was getting a really nice and large sized (I think it took up a lot of space in his garage) jet ready to fly. I hope he chimes in with his input and as well updates us on his plane. .

When I lived in Austin, I stumbled upon an RC 'airport' Super nice folks & some crazy stuff. Everything from starter battery planes to turbine jets. One guy had an F16 he said could top 200mph The Enemy's gate is down.

I used to race R/C airplanes, mine were in what's called the Q500 category. My plane was clocked at 145 MPH ground speed coming out of Pylon 3 where the plane is going the slowest it goes for each circuit. Then I used to be a Contest Director (still am but not active) for Formula 1 R/C planes. They went around 170 MPH.

I'm sure you're referring to Andyb and his 1/5 scale F-18 turbine project. He hasn't posted an update in some time regretfully. He was hoping to have it flying this summer I believe. Model sailplanes/gliders using a new technique w the backside of the slope, have achieved amazing air & ground speeds. (I think albatrosses use a similar technique across wavetops to fly and even sleep while across oceans.) The E Flight V1200 is more like a 140mph plane which is awesome straight from the factory. To be honest much more than that and it will be out of sight so fast it won’t be much fun. I have a wing that does 110mph and it’s shocking how quickly it will cover two football field and turn into a speck on the horizon.

I think you're right, that seems like the name I couldn't recall. Thanks! .
