for the first time in many, many years we are going to upgrade our TV. Wife thinks a 55" or so is Max. The size and layout of our home is really a limiting factor on what we can do. I really do not want a TV made in China or Mexico. But I suppose a made in Japan is probably out now a days. I like Sony but am open. I would like to stay in the $600-900. Let me know what I need to know. Thanks guys and gals. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

I'm probably like you. I would only buy Sony and only from their top brand line (used to be XBR, not sure what their top brand is these days). What I been trying to do is buy the lower end, in the size I want, of the Sony top end brand. And then try to get the previous year's model on sale. Only exception if there is a spec difference like HDCP or HDMI version. If there is a choice, I avoid chicom. But not sure if that's on option these days. $600-900 is going to be tough to get an XBR level TV. Still, I'd buy Sony over other brands, even Samsung. I usually will do a quick scan of Japanese websites to see what models are popular. Maybe try yodobashi camera or bic camera. like: https://www.yodobashi.com/cate.../?discontinued=false "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." Your guess is way too high. They're cheaper these days at discount houses. Our new one is 65" and we only paid $440 or so. Its "defect" is that it takes 4 buttons to turn on. I'm thinking my wife selected it on price, not convenience to me. Doesn't matter. Shop around at the discount houses. Unhappy ammo seeker

If it's the first time upgrading a TV in many years, any entry model will blow you away. There are some excellent Chinese models below your price range. Here is a Samsung that is below price range, and it a very good TV for someone that doesn't care about all the bells and whistles, but wants decent TV. I assume it's made in S. Korea, but I don't know. https://www.costco.com/samsung...duct.4000149530.html Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

Easy. 55” Sony 4k TV _________________________ "Age does not bring wisdom. Often it merely changes simple stupidity into arrogant conceit. It's only advantage, so far as I have been able to see, is that it spans change. A young person sees the world as a still picture, immutable. An old person has had his nose rubbed in changes and more changes and still more changes so many times that that he knows it is a moving picture, forever changing. He may not like it--probably doesn't; I don't--but he knows it's so, and knowing is the first step in coping with it." Robert Heinlein

Yours is a question of size vs. picture quality. We have an LG OLED that is absolutely tops in picture quality. Costco sells a couple of 55” that, when on sale, should meet your price point. Big sales usually correspond to that football game in a few weeks. Ours is coupled to an Apple TV. Thanks guys, good info. I do like Sony. Still have a Wega from the late eighties. Not as my primary tv though Still works great. I do not hold LG in high regard due mostly to their washer and dryer and refrigerator horror stories. Not their TV's. I would rather buy a S.Korean TV than one made in Mex. or Chi. on principle. But might be forced into it. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Cannot really offer anything useful in the category you are looking for, but will say this... I've had a Samsung HD LED TV for over 10 years now, and it's still going strong. Has been 100% perfect in reliability since the day it came out of the box. How much longer will it last? I have no idea, but I do know that I'll likely buy another Samsung when this one dies... only a 4K model or better now that they are affordable! _____________________________ Bill R. I really don’t get this whole thing with trying to avoid anything from China, do you realize that most of everything we use and consume comes from there now? I’m not defending it, just stating a fact of life. My Chinese made TCL Roku TV has been awesome going on 4 years now and far better than the two Phillips TV’s that preceded it.

Almost certainly, the PC(s) and Cell Phone(s) we are using to post here are Made in China. Until things change, some things are simply unavoidable. Honestly, I want to buy the best product available that meets my needs, that I can afford. Obviously, Made in USA is my first choice, followed Made in ANY 'western' country (to include basically ANY European country, and Japan), and then Made in Taiwan. After that, NOT Made is China is my preference, but sometimes you don't have a choice. ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! Just a quick comment regarding size. Remember that the size designation is a diagonal measurement. Going from 55 to 65 is not that much in the normal side to side and top to bottom measurements. 49 X 28 vs. 57 X 33 so 8" X 5" larger. You may be surprised how well the larger one may fit. I swear I had something for this |
My last Samsung QLED has it's HDMI ports burn out. On the plus side, it was a separate box that attaches to the TV, but a used replacement was $750 as they cancelled that design 2ish years later. It worked as a Smart TV, but nothing else. I'll also +1 Sony's Bravia lineup. The main TV in the living room is their midgrade and spends at least 20 hours a day on and playing since 2021. I have an A series OLED in my bedroom that stays on while a sleep and again, no issues. If you're an Android user, Sony uses Google TV so Chromecast is built in along with Airplay 2 so anything on your phone can be streamed to the TV. They're also have accurate Cinema/Filmmaker modes that come nearly 100% calibrated with just fine tweaks needed. Their top TVs use either QD-OLED for better color or Mini-LED for better brightness. You pay a little more, but with this unit of Sony, you still get more.

Purchased three of this model in December; two 55" and one 65". Very pleased with the price and quality.

3 Samsungs in my house, no complaints, 2 smart 1 dumb. 1 Vizio, clunky home menu, but otherwise fine And a pretty old, very heavy, brand I can't recall Panasonic maybe that I got from my grandmother. Has no smart features at all & has like 7 fans on the back of it for cooling. Not sure where any of them were mfg. The Enemy's gate is down.
