Platinum 3776 should be available under your budget, and is a very nice fountain pen, and good about not leaking, etc

When you say ink pen I'm gonna assume you mean fountain pen. I second anything by lamy. I have LX model and it is fantastic.

+1 Another great suggestion. Mine has a music nib and is pictured just below the Churchman's Prescriptor in the picture I posted.

They have a ton of special edition designs that would fit many different personalities, depending on the kids you are buying for. For instance, I have the Declaration of Independence one which is a really nice copper tone exterior with all of the signers etched in. But that is just one of many examples.

I have to agree here!

Been my pen of choice for a great while.

College students? I say iTunes gift cards. I love nice pens. Mostly Montblanc. I bought several including fountain pens and different models. I’ve also given Montblanc pens as gifts.

I learned that while I can pass a nice pen to someone, I can pass to them the appreciation for pens.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Nice. Can you put Pilot G2 refills in the click top one somehow? Or modified Montblanc?

A good source fountain pens (rollerball too), inks, accessories, and decent reviews on most models is Goulet Pens.

I only have the twist version. G2 and montblanc refills would be too long to fit. With a G2 you could potentially trim it down, but I'm not sure it would be sturdy enough to catch on the twist mechanism, if that makes sense.

The Schmidt p8126, which is essentially what comes with the pen, is a hell of a good refill though.
