No idea. Would it mean something? I’m still kinda getting a kick out of the pickle gift. I mean it is perplexing. We are in page 4 because of it. LOL.

Y the way another neighbor fought by a homemade blueberry pie. Nice people here.

Frayedends, I miss your home construction thread. It is time to buy some new land and build another house.

LOL. Well they still need to do the driveway and landscaping. Plus I just got my John Deere x350 and my Lonestar Grillz smoker delivered. I’ll update the thread as we make progress on the yard.

You mentioned European. I knew someone who visited Ukraine while it was still USSR. The wife of the couple they were visiting serve them pickles and sausages. His eyes teared up as he related the wife stood in line for hours at the grocery store to buy the only things available. Pickles and sausages. Never had he been more humbled to learn what it took to feed him a meal and never had he been grateful to be in America with SO many selections even for just toilet paper.

Don’t brag up the pickles! Andy and Barney bragged up Aunt Bea’s pickles & you saw what happened to them.

We had a neighbor back in Carolina that gave us bread & butter pickles, my God they were great. Old farmers wife, just a great person.

The cannibals are fattening you up. Please be considerate and refrain from eating too much onions and garlic or you can taste gamey.

I think pickles are a great idea for a house warming gift. But then I eat a lot of pickles. Smile

Nothing cultural about pickles and Mormons. However, like any American, pickles are a must at all 4th of July and/or family celebrations in case you were wondering. I prefer dill and then bread and butter - can’t stand sweet.

Thread drift off. It sounds like you have nice neighbors. You ought to take them shooting after you sound them out.

Vlasic? If they really wanted to give you good pickles they would have brought Claussen. Preferably the (somewhat harder to find) Hearty Garlic flavor.

The Kosher Dill pickles are good, but the Hearty Garlic are better:

No clue what the pickles are for, but I now know how I am going to fuck with new neighbors.

So they weren't gherkin your chain, they just yanka your chain a little bit. Or maybe they hate pickles and were just re-gifting them.

I would just be thankful for the gift and the friendliness of your new neighbors. Don't overthink it.

They brought the pickles to provide the first item towards stocking the pantry. Or they hate pickles.

Obviously it's meant as a nice gesture to welcome new neighbors. But come on, a jar of pickles is an odd welcoming gift.

Now, if they had presented to him some Maille cornichons, that'd be a different story.

You can't make everyone happy trying to do something nice, you do what you feel is nice and hopefully they appreciate it.

Ironically, my wife had a long-time employee who quit unexpectedly while she was on vacation this last week. He was scheduled to retire the end of this month and the owner, against the recommendations of staff, decided to buy some pies. The guy was very direct he wanted no celebration. Turns out he put in his recognition that very afternoon...over f'ing pie! Probably lost his bonus over the stint too.

Point being is that there's surely people that would be perplexed with pickles, and even pissed off at free pie! World is a weird place but one thing I try not to do is second-guess someone's generosity.

My new neighbors certainly made me happy and I’m not second guessing them. I just had to know if it’s some custom I’ve never heard of before. Apparently not. The pickle juice for fatigue is a neat speculation. I’m sure some day it will come up over a few beers and I’ll see.
