A thank you card telling how much it meant to receive their gift. Good neighbors make it so much easier to live in an area.

I know why we got the casserole. I mentioned in my last post they were not homemade.

It's been many years since we moved anywhere. But back in the day we seemed to move every two to three years courtesy of Uncle Sam. It was always traditional for neighbors to welcome the newbies with a gift of some food. The notion was that while unpacking and getting settled in, preparing a decent meal was going to be a challenge so a gift of a dish or two was always deemed generous and welcomed. It also served to facilitate introductions. Nice all the way around. Smile

When I moved in my neighbors brought over a loaf of homemade bread and a dozen fresh eggs.

Nice folks, and a nice gesture.

What brand of pickles? That could be a compliment or an insult...

I don't see it as anything other than the pickles being part of the meal.

They are swingers. The pickles are a secret sign letting you know they are open to getting to know you better. Unless you are into that sort of thing, and if you were you would already understand the pickle thing, I wouldn't make any prolonged eye contact or wear anything tight when you return the casserole dish Eek

I walked over to our newest neighbor on moving day with a nice bottle of red wine and a "Welcome To The Neighborhood" only to be told by the wife that "We don't drink". Took a while to get past that.

When we moved in, the neighbors sent their dog over to fertilize my yard.

Maybe they hate pickles and just wanted to get rid of them.

The fact that neighbors even acknowledge one an other in this day and age is in and of itself a feat. Congratulations and enjoy the casserole.

When we first moved into our home, our neighbors welcomed us with what they had. It was from the heart. A loaf of homemade bread and a couple of jars of canned pork. Canned applesauce and tomatoes. Fresh eggs and a bag of walnuts. It was always given along with a handshake and a hug.
