I know two males and two females ,all over 60 y.o.,
Who do not work well with others. They all work very well on tasks by themselves.
Two of them are perfectionists too a fault.
But none of the four can work with four or five others w/o Causing a rift with at least one or two of the others.
They either have to "help" another person or they feel the need to "instruct" or come across as the boss .
They may even wait till the others finish then go re do their work.
Two of them will refuse to be involved unless they are deemed to be a team leader or over seer.
So, What's the deal ?This message has been edited. Last edited by: bendable,

I know one. I call it being a sociopath. I am sure those you are talking about have other anti social behaviors and issues.

Some people just aren't team players. I've met a number of people like that over the years.
Some see it as an asset, like Ross Perot who had a big sign on the wall at his company that says "Eagles Don't Flock."
Or it could be something else like being antisocial but I doubt they're sociopaths.

They could be narcissists.
Not to the level of sociopaths but still not great to work with.

Don’t know the correct medical diagnosis, but lump it into a category “People I tend to avoid.”

I think the affliction is best described as, “Doesn’t play well with others.”
The challenge for a manager is to decide how best to handle these folks. Some can learn to doing a better job being a team player (many can’t or won’t); some are good enough at doing what they do that it is worth keeping them and insulating the rest of the team from them / keeping them on isolated projects; and others are best managed out of the organization. Fun & games…

One of the four mentioned above was going to load a busted up concrete driveway in too a trailer ,haul it too a creek bank and toss it off for erosion control.
Three of us offered to help him (that's a lot of work)
He refused our offers for free labor, as he had a very specific " plan " :Roll eyes:
We all looked at each other W.t.f.

In kindergarten they were nicely termed as the Do Not Play with Others kids. Other kids called them mean bullies.
