Country music star Jake Owen and Phil Mickelson had a sharp verbal altercation at Jordan Spieth's wedding last Thanksgiving Day weekend and Lefty delivered a first-round knockout as only he can.

The Anne Verret-Jordan Spieth nuptials were held in Texas the day after the infamous Tiger vs. Phil pay-per-view match.
Owen was one of the millions who paid $29.99 to watch the event on pay-per-view, only to learn later millions of others had been able to watch the match for free. Owen, who is pals with Spieth, was not impressed with the quality of golf he had paid nearly $30 to watch.
Owen has a one handicap and played the Web.com Tour's Nashville Golf Open Benefitting the Snedeker Foundation on a sponsor's exemption last year.
After a few drinks, Owen decided to share his feelings with Mickelson.
He tells the story on the Barstool Sports "ForePlay" podcast.
Mickelson's reply was epic Phil.
"I was like, hey, Phil, you owe me (expletive) $29.99 for wasting four hours of my life with the (expletive) golf I've ever seen," Owen recalled telling Mickelson, who now has 44 PGA Tour victories. "I want my $29.99 back and apologize to me for some (expletive) golf."
The unflappable Mickelson instantly pulled out a wad of cash ripped off a $100 bill.
"I won 90,000 of these yesterday. Take one of these and go (expletive) yourself," he said.
And in case you think Owen was talking out of school, Mickelson later Tweeted: "True Story " in response.
Never stop being you, Phil.

Classic! I don't think I'd be the one jawing at Phil. Actually pro golfers have shown themselves to be pretty quick witted most of the time.

“Not only has Mickelson consistently given back to others at tour events, he and his wife, Amy, through the Phil & Amy Foundation, are huge supporters of charitable organizations tied to the military and education. Birdies for the Brave, for example, is a tour umbrella program that Phil and Amy helped create in 2005. It funds several military support organizations, including the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and Homes For Our Troops.

Also in 2005, the Mickelsons partnered to develop the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy, a curriculum that gives third-, fourth- and fifth-grade teachers tools to motivate students in math and science.

Phil and Amy think the best way to give people opportunities to improve their quality of life is through education. One example: The Special Operations Warrior Foundation gives college scholarships to children of fallen soldiers who served in Special Operations forces.”

I just don’t “get” golf. From the ridiculous outfits, to the mind-numbingly boring pace, to the waste of a perfectly good day.

And you know this how? Phil is one of the best guys on tour. He interacts with the fans, loves little kids, and is very charitable.

The irony is so thick you need a shovel. Jake Owens complaining about fans not getting their money’s worth...

I’m more than OK with Phil’s response.

You have to play it to understand it, they make it look easy but it's anything but. When you make your first par, birdie, eagle, etc. then you will understand. it has the highest of highs and the lowest of lows sometimes on the same hole.

When I started playing golf I completely sucked at it but kept trying and working at it and it finally came around. trust me there was nothing better then kicking my three buddies who were high school jocks asses on a tough course. That day was epic and I have done it more then once.

I’ve played golf since I was a teenager (53) and I have probably watched 5 hours total of golf on TV.

It’s painful boring.

Really, just hit one right and you'll understand. It's the rounds that can damper spirits. Smile

I remember being at my grandparent's house when I was very young, and my grandfather would always have golf on TV on the weekend. I never understood what was so appealing about it.

Fast forward to today, and I now love watching golf on TV when I want nothing to do but relax. Hey, go figure.

Still, I don't imagine I'd ever pay to watch it on TV.

I find it soothing to watch or have on in the background. With HDTV it great to see all the courses. Sucked before HD.

I suck at golf. I play the front nine and tell my friends to meet me at the clubhouse when they finish.
