This thread is timely for me. I had distal bicep reattachment surgery on New Year’s Eve and I’m gonna be out of work until at least four to six months. I was left-handed for most things, but I learned to carry right handed. When I first joined the Navy, there were almost no lefty holsters. So I’m gonna have to get used to carrying Lefty again. I’m not quite in the same boat as you. I’m trying to decide between a 642 in a pocket holster, the p30SK iwb, or just getting something else. I don’t really want to spend the money on a new gun because I’m going to be on short term disability and don’t need to blow money. I’d really love to carry my DW Valkyrie, but it’s a single side safety and I don’t know if I’d remember to flip it off carrying it on the left side vice right. Let us know which one you go with and how it works for you.

Pocket carry you say...Seeing as how it's the middle of winter and you'll likely be wearing one every time you go out anyway, how about pocket carry in a jacket pocket? I have a Trigger Guard Holster for a P365/P365X from Detroit Holster that I'm pleased with. It comes with a paracord tether to anchor it in the pocket, plus it's fully ambi, so after you're fully recovered, you can continue to use it on your strong side.

Detroit Holster offers multiple flavors depending on your needs/wants. Beyond the Std model, they an 'Adjustable Retention' version as well a 'Delux' version that also covers the muzzle end of the slide. The Trigger Guard Holster can also be customized for draw hand, which moves the Mag Release cover to the opposite side for lefties, and the Kydex is available in multiple colors/patterns as well.

I got the Std version for my P365X in Carbon Fiber Armor Black, and I'm quite pleased with it. Just FYI - My P365X has the Armory Craft Extended Mag Release Button, and the Std. version works just fine with it.

May I suggest a button up shirt with Velcro closure?

Rip open and as you release the garment, your hand is close to the pistol.

Basically a lower key version of an open front IDPA vest.

It’s pretty quick and I would thing faster than pocket or bag carry.

Are you going to be wearing a sling?
Maybe there is a way to carry a small pistol in the sling.

Yes I will have a sling. I do like the Detroit holster that nhracecraft linked to. My question for that is how do you anchor the paracord in a jacket pocket? If in a pants pocket I assume it’s just attached to a belt or belt loops.

If the pockets have zippers, could you attach it to the zipper pull?

Honestly, you just need to be creative. I have a few jackets I pocket carry a P365X in using the Trigger Guard Holster. I have a denim jacket where I carry in the inside pocket where there's an opening at the bottom such that I can loop one end of the paracord tether through it, and tie it together. I have a winter jacket that has an internal pocket with a pass thru for wired ear buds I can use to tie off to in a similar manner. I also have a ski parka that has a clip for attaching a car key that I can tie off to. One could also sew in a piece of webbing with a D-ring/Key-ring attached to anchor it to. The tether is adjustable in length by how you tie it down, and functions to strip the Trigger Guard 'Holster' off of the Pistol if/when you draw it if needed.

Just tuck your gun of choice into the sling. You’re already wearing it and it supports the weight.

Link Best Carry Bags

Nice article, some good suggestions and if you don't like what they chose then at least you may find the information on what to look for good.

Like, look for a bag that doesn't scream GUN!, such as manufacturers logo like SIG SAUER or GLOCK on the bag, or any logo for that matter.

Someone may like the style of the bag, google it and see it's sold as a firearm carry bag and then you really aren't concealed, maybe complain at work if you keep it on you there, perhaps confront you. Never really thought about that before..

Probably a bit more difficult to locate a company that doesn't put it's logo on the product.

On the shove it in the sling, well it best be well hidden in the sling, most are open top, and then there's bending over to pick something up and it slides out and drops on the floor. Not good.

So far I’ve narrowed down to this:

First choice a fanny pack. My mobility is going to be limited in most ways. After more thought I might be wearing a lot of sweatpants which are notorious for not keeping crap in your pockets. With this I cover several bases brcsuse I can carry ID, keys, wallet and everything else. So if you have experience with fanny packs Please jump in. Eberlestock Bando bag looks good but has lots of reviews that make me want to keep looking. Most other bags are way too large and look like a lunch box attached to your waist.

Second choice, I’m gonna get a Detroit holster. I can see that being useful long after I’m back to normal.

Third, I’ll choose a pocket holster for when I’m back wearing jeans. Also, I also understand that some companies offer a right side safety for the P238.

Shattered my right wrist years ago.
I tossed a 442 then a 340PD in my left front pocket.
(Hint- if going the 340PD route- DO NOT use .357 Mag rounds! Trust me in this!!!)

I like my Ruger LCP as well… I figured a 380 is better than nothing.

Then there’s the theory of “practice with what you already have”.
All you need is a left handed holster.
If you’re loosing that much weight, and have looser pants- an IWB will work.

I don’t want to screw around with IWB with my primary arm in a sling. I’d probably get killed with a fistful of shirt.

If you wanted to get to the 442, wouldn't the 340PD be in the way? Razz

As it turns out I never needed a fanny pack or alternate carry method. By the time I could effectively leave the house, my arm had healed enough to where I could use my normal carry set up. I did end up getting a Detroit Holster. That will be useful regardless.
