Don't Panic |
Right out of college, right my best college friend helped me move from the dorm to my first job location a few hundred miles away. I had some time on my hands as I moved on a Saturday and work didn't start till Monday. This was in 1979. I thought, "Hey, I'll get him a small gift as a thank-you." Thinking maybe a backgammon set, or something of that sort. Fortunately (I thought) I had noted an "Adult Gifts" store when I was walking around the hotel area. "Perfect!" I thought to myself - should have a good selection of backgammon, chess, darts etc. "Just the ticket!" So I strolled over. Well....the first hint something was amiss was that the store had papered all its windows shut. "That's odd...oh well." Then I went inside! Oh my.... No backgammon sets, nope nope nope.... My next task was getting outside and far away (small town, late '70s) without getting noticed. Had to get the backgammon set elsewhere.

Seems 1979 was a good year for adult toy shopping... My wife's aunt, age about 70-75, needed a new swing to replace one in her yard that had broken from wear over the years. Being internet savvy she went to look for one online. Frustrated that she kept getting children's toys and kids swing sets instead of the quiet, nostalgic tree hung swing she was seeking changed her search to: Adult swing. This was....... unwise. Her kids still tease her, I give her credit for coming clean on it. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

Those two stories of accidental adult material exposure reminded me of the early days of the internet. whitehouse dot com is NOT the site I was expecting to find. --Tom The right of self preservation, in turn, was understood as the right to defend oneself against attacks by lawless individuals, or, if absolutely necessary, to resist and throw off a tyrannical government.
