Heading to LA Tomorrow
Quick trip to deal with a client. No idea how this trip is going to turn out.

Installed a vhf ham radio in my truck with a temp antenna on the roof.

get on the computer and look at the repeater directory for listings by locations by your travel route and program into memory. National Call Channel is 146.52 fm simplex (radio to radio direct not using repeaters). You did not indicate that you were a licensed ham operator. If you are then I'm sorry for bringing it up But if not then DO NOT TRANSMIT ON THE HAM FREQUENCIES-- Only Listen. The possible ramifacations could be costly in more ways than one. No law against listening. But against Federal Laws to transmit without proper license if someone wishes to push it. ...................de KL7JIU...aka.. drill sgt.

Los Angeles or, Louisiana?

Depending on where you'll be, you may wanna remove your antennae when parked, as some mischievous, petty thief may want to help remove it for you.

Lower Alabama also falls within the LA criteria...

Los Angeles.

Have two large properties to survey with perhaps a third added on.

Yeah, the radio is on a quick Mount tied to the passenger seat rail and the antenna is a mag mount so it can be moved into the cabin really quickly.

More concerned about four hours of desert driving and a good rag chew will make the miles go by.

^^^^ Not trying to sound like the "radio police" but in these times with some of these "prepers" have no reguard for the proper use of these types of radios. Myself have been a "ham" for 43 years. .The location (la) is the state of Louisiana. And yes the long road trips can get very boring when traveling by yourself....de KL7JIU...aka .. drill sgt.

Made it LA but it was a hell of a ride. Everything good until I got to Indio. Crawled along at 9 - 10 mph all the way to Beaumont.

Rest of the ride to Monrovia moderately easy.

Lots of traffic on UHF. Win System. 449.375
PL 107.2 Another frequency you can try: 446.550 PL 100.0

Next time you travel into California, download the Repeater App for Southern Cal. MANY 2 meter and 70cm repeaters in that state with connection around the world..

KJ7FTH. N.E. Tucson.
