Never had flooding issues there although they have had wind damage.
As you've alluded to, flooding IS a major concern in a hurricane but it is only part of it. Sustained winds of 130 MPH for four hours was our problem with Ida. Our home took $200,000 in damage and this is only counting the damage to the house itself, not including contents and temporary living expenses. If a neighboring structure fails and ends up on your roof, even a stoutly built house is toast.
I pray that those in the path of this storm sustain as little damage as possible AND more importantly that their recovery is quick, smooth, and complete. It's been over a year and I still have no kitchen and a LOT of trim carpentry to do not to mention all of the priming and painting that needs to be done. All of that and I'm one of the lucky ones...

My brother lives about 50 miles north of Tampa, and it looks like he won't get it as bad as he thought yesterday. I talked to him last night & he had the windows boarded up, everything from the yard put away, plenty of supplies, and plenty of gas for the generator. His son has a house in Ft. Myers, and it appears like he's going to get the brunt of it instead. Our son has a house in Lakeland. Hopefully it'll weaken by the time it gets over there.

I'm in a convoy of Coast Guard communications trucks going down to prestage for the aftermath. This will be a bad storm.

Looking at it now, I’ll bet the 5:00 update says it keeps shifting east. I think we’re going to cancel our reservation in Fort Myers for Thursday. I’m going to guess it’ll make landfall just south of Fort Myers.
Sanibel is going to look different in a few days. Sad. I hope Okeechobee doesn't flood like a few years ago or there will be another summer of red tide.

Big deal is correct! NHC/NOAA is the most reliable and accurate information available.
This is where I live. Nothing major, but close to home.

We’re supposed to switch from the hotel we are at on Corkscrew Rd to one at Alico Rd., two exits up. Couldn’t get a room for last night at the one we have booked for tonight. The rooms here aren’t available tonight.
Stay safe folks.

In Flagler county, prepped as best as possible and hunkered down. Expecting 10-15 inches of rain. Hoping my fellow Floridians stay safe.

Thanks, my SF friends. We are here in Tampa just a few miles off the coast so should be interesting but not as bad as expected. I hope that everyone in the area fares far better than hoped. Stay safe!!!

In northern Lee County, eye wall is now supposed to make landfall about 20 miles north of us. 4” of rain so far when I emptied my rain gauge this morning. Like others, everything is battened up and now we just have to wait for it to be over. Hoping we don’t loose power as my generator is not big enough to run the AC, first world problem.

The houses across the street are on the north end of Charlotte Harbor. The talking heads and the National Hurricane Center (NHC) are saying 12’-18’ of surge above the ground. That would put water in the second stories of the houses across the street. Our house would be completely under water.
When we left last night, I’d guess 80% of my neighbors were still there. The truck across the street wasn’t in front of their garage. I’m going to guess they moved the truck to block the garage door and left.
We dodged a bit off palm fronds in the road, but are at the Home2 Suites near Alico Rd. The wind has picked up and is now blowing to the north.

Our (Miami Dade) OEM, along with FEMA, has already set up for patients to be sent down here. We are getting hit with TS level winds, with some calls. We're already busy. I hope I don't see anyone here on SF end up by us as at Jackson/Ryder.

Central FL, we're stocked up on supplies, plenty of gasoline, generator is operational if needed, not much else to do but wait, flooding is the big issue

Here in Altamonte Springs just north of Orlando. Took the dog out for a potty run about 30 minutes ago. He simply couldn't care less (damn good dog). Just summer wind and rain so far.

The hound just went out, neighbors walking their Husky/Wolf dog, kids splashing in the gutters, took a few minutes and drained down the pool a bit, since we'll probably get a megashidton of rain.
