Okay, so I don’t like country. I like EDM (electronic dance music) and heavy metal.

You want someone who doesn’t like country to start liking it, you need to play something that somewhat resonates with them. The “tear in my beer” kind of country won’t do it.

Here is some country this metalhead, EDM guy likes:

Heartland - George Strait.
Good run of bad luck - Clinnt Black
Seminole Wind - John Anderson
The Devil Went Down to Georgia - Charlie Daniels
Nobody Wins - Radney Foster

There are quite a few more that I actually like, but here are the first ones that come to mind.

I also like some EDM, and some Metal, but not much Metal (depends on the sub genre)

hated country as a kid, but loved hee haw,

did not care for Bluegrass, uncle played in a band, and as a proper punk/new wave (late 70's) kid, to me it sucked,

however,
I was brought up in a Jazz and top 40 household,

and a friend introduced me to Dave Grisman, and then Tony Rice (who played with Dave Grisman a bit)

so, since I like Jazz, and Dave Grisman is a bit of acoustic jazz, blues, country, blue grass, I drifted back into some country,

do like Del McCoury , Dawg Music, Blue Grass (most of it, not all) and some of the more modern Americana, which is more like the old country vs the newer factory produced stuff,

in my 60+ yrs, I have learned that if I don't like a particular genre of music, I can still find a band or 3 of that Genre that I like,

Edited to say that, there are occasional country songs that are fine, but the genre as a whole sucks.

try

Johnny Cash,
look up Roy Clark, Jerry Reed, and Glen Campbell Guitar solos,

Dwight Yokam ,

and look up Dawg Music,

metal wise,

try some Scandinavian Folk metal,

or try some Rammstein,

the top 40 hair band stuff generally sucks,

however seeing a band like Steel Panthers has me rethinking that,
(They are hilarious live)

rock/ not so much metal, try Buckethead, Zappa (dad and son), King Crimson, types,

Differences between country and western music. Just off the top of my head.

Anything that George Jones did - country
Along with Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Chris Stapleton, most anything written by Hank Cochran (Ocean Front Property in Arizona, Make the World Go Away, etc) Gatlin Brothers,

Western music - Bob Wills, Marty Robbins. Frankie Laine (Rawhide song), etc.

Seems apropos: Lynn Anderson - I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool

Wow. Eek 90-05% of the songs in this thread, I would categorize as what NOT to play someone who says "I don't like country."

I can’t stand new country because it is ridiculous. Country music is about life. Even though I still consider him new, Gary Allen sings about life AND with passion. He would be a good crossover for those not liking the old stuff.

My father mentioned both of those artists many times. He loved their music.
