So I've been wanting another motorcycle for several years. Since I'm now divorced, there's no one to tell me it's not in the budget.
And I decided this time around I wanted a Harley, found this 2001 Softail Custom with 17,000 miles, price was very reasonable, so it's mine now.

And today it snowed. Mad

Congratulations. I need a new ride also. I saw one out yesterday. I still have a solid 6" of ice on my street and driveway.

One piece of advice, look into the Screamin Eagle hydraulic cam chain tensioner kit. I upgraded my 2002 FLHTPI with that kit last year. The kit also includes an upgraded oil pump, higher volume, and scavenging. Well known problem point with the TC engines. The new style has improved shoe face life and more consistent chain tension. While the tensioners on my bike were still serviceable since they were changed my MPG seems to have improved a bit, I think there was some unnecessary slack in one or both of the cam chains.

Also, nice ‘69 GTO in the garage there!

Congratulations, nice looking bike!

Good advice from shovelhead. The tensioner shoes in my 2004 were getting thin by 18,000 miles, they may have lasted to 25K but doubtful til 30K. It's not too big an expense to have the upgrade done.

Good looking Softail, indeed.

I saw a year old 114 CI Street Glide today. Rider said she paid $32K OTD. Bike had every damn accessory she could find.

Thanks for the advice, I will indeed look into the kit suggested by shovelhead. But I’m so excited about getting on a bike and hitting the road again I will likely wait until fall.

This is my first Harley, all of my past bikes were Honda’s so I do appreciate any advice. This bike does have the screamin eagle stage 1 kit, but that is the only upgrade.

Again, thanks for the comments and any advice.

Congrats! Harleys are great bikes. I've had a 1200C and a Heritage. Loved them both but they were getting tougher to ride as I got older. Frown

Take the motorcycle safety course before you start riding. The safety course will prevent you from developing bad potentially dangerous riding habits as well as teach you good habits that will help make you a better rider. Ive taken the course 3 times and learned something new each time.

Nice ride. You will enjoy your time with it.
You should consider ear plugs from day one. This is from someone who knows better now that it's too late.

Be prepared to have to replace some seals. That age and milage the seals tend to dry out.

Congratulations on the new bike! I got back into it shortly after I was divorced and ended up with a 2014 Sportster 1200C. That bike did wonders for me in terms of providing an outlet for me to think, get away, and just plain have fun.

I loved my Sportster, but last August I traded it in on a 2016 Ducati Diavel. I felt like I went from flying an old biplane to a fighter jet. Both are tons of fun though.

Enjoy!

Great looking bike. If you make your way to VA, I can take you on some great back roads.

Enjoy it and stay safe.

Ok, sorry for the confusion, that photo was taken at the house of the guy I bought the bike from. Don’t know a lot about the car, I believe it is a 69 GTO, he has another one painted orange that is The Judge. And a few other cars from the 60’s and early 70’s. I’ve known him for years, and I know how he takes care of his vehicles.

I have had the motorcycle safety course twice, but since I haven’t ridden in a few years may take it again.

Not sure, never been to Sturgis during the rally. Have friends who have gone several times, but I’ve always had other commitments during that time.
