I would like a chance at the chicken one. I have eaten them before, but that was like thirty years ago. I would like to see how they have changed since my USMC Infantry days... We had the dehydrated stuff...It's up to you if I qualify or not. Thanks for the chance, if I do have a chance...lol

I have never consumed a MRE, but have given serious consideration to stocking up on them - just in case. A couple of weeks ago, one of our members stated that he tried one he had purchased 15 YEARS AGO and that it was delicious. That was certainly encouraging to read! So, please enter me in this karma. I would really like to try them.

Thanks for the chance!

For obvious reasons please do not enter me into your Karma, one of the best MRE's I ever had was the Beef Stew that the British Marines had.

In Iraq we'd lay them out in the sun on a dark surface for a while and let the sun cook them in their packaging.

I remember them being absolutely delicious.

I've never had an MRE. IF I win, my son and I will try it on our next backpacking trip.

Funny story: growing up, Thanksgiving and Christmas were always big family holidays. One year, we were at my uncle's house, and he had a nice den that was the "man cave," and naturally, lots of beer and snacks were consumed watching football. At some point, I found myself alone in there and decided to grab one of the beef jerky pieces out of the bag. It was absolutely awful! I wondered what horrible brand is this, so I looked closely at the package. That is when I discovered they were beef jerky flavored dog treats. Yech.

I was Navy. We never had MREs. I have never tasted one, and I would like to.

Funny food story? Hmmmm... Back in the 1960s I lived / worked in Puerto Rico. We did most of our grocery shopping at Pueblo supermarket, sort of the local equivalent of Publix.

I used to buy their house brand frozen orange juice. It came in a cardboard cylinder, with aluminum end caps. One of the end caps was embossed with "Please open other end" (in Spanish). One morning, I grabbed one of these from the freezer, saw the instructions to open the other end, turned it over, saw instructions to open other end, turned it over, saw ...

It kept me busy for a while.

I'd take a shot at the ratatouille.

I was making London Broil on night. Nice hunk of meat, oven going well, thinking about the sides, and BANG! Sounded like a bomb went off inside the oven. I open it, maybe a little cautiously, and my London Broil is covered in shards of glass. The Pyrex exploded. I was miffed. Wife asked if I put the Pyrex under the broiler. Well, duh, it's London Broil. Turns out no Pyrex under the broiler and they did actually write it on the Pyrex. I asked if I could scrape of the glass, maybe wash off the steak, and eat it anyways. Wifey said no. Dinner ruint. Lesson learnt. And that was the second Pyrex dish I killed. Something about hot dishes not mixing well with cold marble countertops and whatnot.

Please count me in, I've never had a MRE.

Food story: About 5 years ago I discovered I am allergic to avocados. Guacamole has always made me feel off, but I always thought it was from the margarita. I ate some tacos at a restaurant that included raw avocado. Thirty minutes later I thought I was going to burst into flames. Like a volcano erupting in my stomach, my blood boiling, I had the windows down in the car in the middle of winter with the AC on. Went home, threw up, and laid in bed for half an hour writhing in pain, then I was fine. I probably should have gone to the ER. Got myself tested and I have a latex derivative allergy, so many fruits are off the menu now.
