Google "extreme embalming", apparently it's a thing now. I would be completely unsettled by that at a funeral though...nope, no and uh nope.

Bet it took lots of spackle and paint to fix those guys up for viewing.

About 20 years ago we had a local Highway Patrolman off himself with his service pistol. It was ugly and quite messy. At the viewing/funeral, you could hardly even tell that he died of anything other than natural causes. Yeah, some of those guys do some nice work with not a lot to work with.

This case? Seems more like taxidermy to me.

Gives new meaning to the term "viewing." So how does one go up and pay their respects?

I just can’t see wasting money on something like this and I’d hate to see what that costs. I’ve instructed my wife to dispose of me the cheapest possible way which happens to be cremation with no service. I was going to have her get a line box but then she’d have to pay for a plot. If you didn’t want to see me when I was alive there’s no point seeing me after I’m dead. I’ve been involved in too many funerals and I’m not giving those crooks any more of my money than I have to. I’ve heard them tell loved ones “wouldn’t you want the best for your husband?” as they showed some astoundingly overpriced caskets and other junk. I saw $200 for a notebook to log who came to the wake and many other things that in any other setting would be considered price gouging. When my mom was cremated they showed me urns to buy for the ashes. I said no thanks, the cardboard box will do.

With a game cartridge and a 40 (ounce or caliber - either works). Big Grin

dibs on the zebra cakes. So my questions is how do they get-em in the coffin with his legs permanently bent like that?

Death photography was a thing as far back as the 1800s. In a period where having your photo taken was expensive, if you died before it was expected your family may want something to remember you by. Sometimes it was just the deceased, but many other times the family posed with you.

Very similar to the OP's link. The deceased was made to look as alive as possible, and using braces and other techniques posed as if they were alive

I won't post a link as many of these types of photos include deceased children.
