I'm just curious how often we forum members change tires vs. how we try to maximize our return on investment.

Question:
How many miles are on your current tires?

Choices:
< 10k
10k to 20k
20k to 30k
30k to 40k
40k to 50k
50k to 60k
> 60k

I do 6 months on all season radials (summer and fall) and 6 months on snow tires. Roughly 6k miles per year on each set.

I average 40K on a set of tires. I could go more if I waited for them to wear all the way to the wear bars (2/32" tread depth), but I don't like to do that. My last set (Hankook Optimo) hydroplaned once when they still had otherwise usable tread (about 5/32").

I used to buy summer tires for my ZX. Tires would only last a year. Since then, I’ve only cared about tire performance (wet, hydroplaning resistance, dry handling). And then I'm conservative with tread depth going into the rainy season. I’ll change earlier rather than later.

I replaced the OEM Pirelli's on my 2015 Mercedes E 350 4MATIC at 50k miles with the same tires. just ordered the same tires again from Tire Rack yesterday at 93k as I am now down to 2 - 3/32. Figure if thats what the German engineers picked for this car its good enough for me.

I don't know. Current tires came on the car when I bought it used.

Currently looking to replace them. I go by wear and not miles for my tires.

Best way to maximize the life of tires is to keep them properly inflated and rotate them regularly. The front will wear quicker than the back. Even more so on FWD and if you push it hard into corners.

I don't replace tires based on mileage. I go by wear. But my last couple vehicles have gotten 60k+ on Michelin LTX M/S tires.

My current vehicle came with factory Yokohama Geolandars, which lasted under 30k.

I replaced them with Michelin Defenders, and expect to get 60k+ out of those.

If I have one set of tires I replace them when they get to 4/32 if winter is coming. If not I will wait till 3/32. I usually average 40k miles on tires.

If I alternate between a winter setup and summer setup then I replace them accordingly. Unsure of mileage. I usually get rid of the car by then. Also on less driven cars I will replace the tires at four years even if they have less than 10k miles on them.

Your tires are what connects you to the road. Gotta keep them in good shape. Been on many a crash scene where cars have bad tires.

Less than 10,000 miles on my Corolla tires, but to be fair, that's my airport car and only gets 50 miles per week. My Venza has the original tread at 46,000+ miles since new (August 2011).

An F250, a suburban, two street bikes, a dirt bike, a 4 wheeler, two small tractors (50hp or less) , one big tractor (100+hp), a zero turn mower, a small single axle utility trailer, a two axle 16’ flatbed trailer, a 14’ stock trailer, and a dual tandem GN trailer.......

I go by tread wear on road stuff, and air-tightness on the rest.

Around 60K on GY Duratracs which are on my 4Runner. I will replace them in the Fall, probably with Falken's as discussed on this forum.

I just replaced the General Tire Grabber's that had about 50K miles on them with another set of Grabber's (for a Honda Pilot).

70,100 on the original Goodyear tires on the truck.

Hell I just came out of a pretty serious MN winter. I plan to get them into July before I change them out, maybe longer. In my experience the closer to the end the tougher they wear.

They will be replaced with LT rated tires, I want a bit tougher carcass. I don’t have to think about where I drive off pavement as much.

Its an either or for me.
My goal to hit 30K + but at 25 I start checking tread depth every three months or so. If tread is thinning at 30, I get new rubber. If the tread depth is ok past 30, I just play it by ear.
The Yoop is not someplace to cruise on worn tires.

I need 2 options, my back wheels have ~30k, my front have ~20k. My car is fairly old and I keep telling myself I will get a new car, but this thing just chugs right along with no problems. I figure when I get the front tires up 40k and back to 50, I'll get a full new set...assuming there are no other problems. I have averaged 50k on each set that run until they are nearing bald. That will put me at ~185k miles on my car. Maybe at that time I will sell the car, touting the BRAND NEW TIRES! Big Grin

The best I've ever done was 110,000 miles on Michelin MXV3's. They were on our 1996 Honda Accord.

At this point, 2/3 of us have 30k or less on our tires. So either it is just timing thing or we don't try to squeeze every last possible mile out of a set of tires.

About 10k on mine since January, Potenza RE980AS. My F150 had about 35k on the OE tires when I traded it in & was due for a set in the rear.

I think we're around 30k on our Flex & still plenty of tread, Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+.
