I can not agree with this. If we step on the First Amendment, will the Second be far behind?

That's an uncertain slippery slope to skate.

All kinds of speech is limited under the Constitution and has been for a long time; yet, we still have the Second.

"Fighting words," incitement to immediate lawless violence, threatening the president and falsely yelling fire in a crowded theater - just to name a few.

I've said my piece about the topic before but I'm glad President Trump has stated a position.

I have no problem with it. If it is a constitutional amendment it is no different that the 1st and 2nd amendment then. If it passes the tests required to become an amendment than the country really wants it, and in my mind it is such a small and narrow limitation (one activity) that it does not actually limit ones speech anyways. Problem is that the people don't want it. It would never pass so this is all mental masturbation.

Trump is pandering to the majority of American voters who cringe at desecrating the flag. Remember he has an election coming up.

There’s a terrific interview on Life, Liberty and Levin tonight 6.16. Catch it on replay next Saturday or on the Fox News website.
Interviewee is John Marini, expert on the administrative state AKA “The Swamp”. He describes in detail how the administrative state came to be as a result of abdication by Congress of their accountability and responsibility. Very much in favor of Trump’s unique “political” approach, as opposed to the rule of “experts”. Points out that Trump really is trying to unite the nation and point us toward self-government again (i.e., politics as opposed to the administrative state).

I just downloaded Marini’s book Unmasking the Administrative State and look forward to reading it.

I know John Marini. One of my old professors when I was at the University of Dallas.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I am very much approving of protecting the Flag, but I don't think we need government punishment for burnning it. What I think would be more appropriate is blanket pardoning of anyone giving a Flag burner a significant thrashing, even one needing medical attention. No criminality for doing a beatdown. (Just another form of "freedom of speech".)

First Amendment considerations aside, if a flag protection amendment were to be passed, what would it protect?

The U.S. flag code describes what constitutes a proper flag, and most flags displayed in this country don’t satisfy the specifications. Even the overall basic dimensions (height to length) which should be 1:1.9 are usually ignored by most manufacturers; one that measures 3×4 or 4×6 feet isn’t a “real” U.S. flag. If it becomes illegal to desecrate an almost flag like that, what’s next? Stars and stripes painted on someone’s pickup? The stars and stripes do-rags some bikers use to bind up their greasy locks? Anything colored red, white, and blue? And then there are the countless versions that aren’t those colors, but everything from black and white to various camouflage hues. Are they U.S. flags?

Then there’s the question of what actions are prohibited. Despite what the code says, many products are produced with sort-of depictions of the flag and therefore we end up with “flags” that we never intended to. Would we be required to dispose of those products in a respectful and dignified manner?

As always, we should be careful what we wish for.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and members of his administration gathered in the Golan Heights on Sunday to unveil a sign for the community, newly named “Ramat Trump,” which translates into “Trump Heights.”

“We are proud to have the opportunity to establish a new community,” Netanyahu said during the unveiling. “And also to honor a big friend.”

The prime minster pushed to rename the existing community of Bruchim in commemoration of President Donald Trump’s recognition of Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights. The area is home to only a few hundred residents, however, Israeli leadership is anticipating the rebranding will encourage migration, reported The Associated Press.

“It’s a great recognition of the president’s courageous decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights,” said David Friedman, the U.S. ambassador to Israel, during the ceremony. “It’s absolutely beautiful.”

Friedman also nodded at Trump’s 73rd birthday on Friday, referring to the renaming “a beautiful birthday present.”

Netanyahu revealed in April he would be introducing a resolution to name a town in the Golan Heights after Trump.

The Trump administration officially recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights in March, after the international community had spent decades refusing to recognize the country’s authority over the land. Prior to the move, the U.S. considered the Golan Heights to be a Syrian territory that should be returned to the country in a negotiated settlement.

Started lining early this morning for tomorrow night's rally. I wonder how many people showed up at the last Biden speech?

As promised, Trump slashes aid to Central America over migrants Big Grin
Lesley Wroughton, Patricia Zengerle

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration on Monday cut hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, after Trump blasted the three countries because thousands of their citizens had sought asylum at the U.S. border with Mexico.

The plan will likely encounter stiff opposition in Congress.

Lawmakers, including some of Trump’s fellow Republicans as well as Democrats, have chafed against the president’s repeated decisions to disregard spending bills passed by Congress, some of which he has signed into law himself.

Lawmakers who opposed the plan said it was cruel to cut off aid to countries grappling with hunger and crime and that the move would be counterproductive because it would more likely increase the number of migrants than decrease it.

“As feared, a presidential tantrum will limit our nation’s ability to actually help address the challenges forcing people to flee to the U.S.,” Democratic Senator Bob Menendez said on Twitter.

Trump has made reducing illegal immigration one of his signature policy pledges, both during his presidential campaign and 2-1/2 years in the White House.

Congressional aides said the administration told them it would reallocate $370 million in aid to Central America that lawmakers had approved for fiscal 2018, and suspend an additional $180 million Congress had approved for fiscal 2017.

All of the money for those years has not yet been spent.

The administration said in March it would cut aid to the three countries after Trump expressed unhappiness with the their immigration policies.

No funds will be provided until the administration is satisfied the countries are reducing the number of migrants reaching the U.S. border, State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus told reporters.

“This is consistent with the president’s direction and with the recognition that it is critical that there be sufficient political will in these countries to address the problem at its source,” she said.

Without elaborating, she added: “Working with Congress, we will reprogram those funds to other priorities as appropriate.”

A U.S. official, with knowledge of plans, said the administration would review the funding by April 2020.

THe President has the perfect solution and no one seems to be pointing it out.

Spend the aid money to cover the cost of the illegals already here, in a 1:50 ratio.

$1 on an illegal : $50 on the WALL

the first thing he needs to do is make money transfers extraordinarily difficult at Walmart and Western Union.

don't allow transfers from non-banking institutions to central and south America without a 50% withholding

if they can afford to send cash back to El Salvador and Mexico, they can afford to pay for healthcare and food first.

Description

INTERVIEW - JOE DIGENOVA - legal analyst and former U.S. Attorney to the District of Columbia – shared his thoughts about the Trump-Stephanopolous interview and what’s ahead for the last two weeks of June on the Supreme Court docket.

Trump cites lessons from Nixon, says he ‘was never going to fire Mueller.’ Trump lashes out after George Stephanopoulos presses him on obstruction, claiming he had full authority to fire Mueller. "But I wasn't gonna fire. You know why? Because I watched Richard Nixon go around firing everybody, and that didn't work out too well."
Push to impeach Trump stalls amid Democrats’ deference to — and fear of — Pelosi / (Washington Post/By Rachael Bade) Prominent liberals in the House, impatient with Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s opposition to impeaching President Trump, seemed on the brink of a major breakthrough one night last month. The chairman of the Judiciary Committee, a key Pelosi ally and the man who would preside over the hearings, was preparing to buck his party’s leader and join the pro-impeachment movement.Pelosi moved swiftly. She summoned her top lieutenants to a late-night meeting and hatched a plan — that six party leaders, speaking in unison, would make clear to the chairman why impeaching Trump was a terrible idea.
CENSUS CITIZENSHIP QUESTION AND PARTISAN GERRYMANDERING ARE THE TWO BIGGEST ISSUES LEFT... With just two weeks left in the month of June, the justices have yet to issue rulings in 24 cases, including high-profile decisions that will affect the census citizenship question and partisan gerrymandering.
