The California Assembly discussed Thursday a bill that would replace Abraham Lincoln or George Washington’s birthday with International Socialist Workers’ Day as a paid holiday.

California Democrat Assemblyman Miguel Santiago introduced Bill AB-3042, which would allow schools to replace Washington Day and Lincoln Day with Presidents’ Day and install an “International Workers’ Day” — conventionally known as “May Day” — as a second holiday.

“I’m aghast that a bill like this would be able to get through committee,” California Republican Assemblyman Matthew Harper said to the Assembly. “Are we in competition to be the laughing stock of the United States?”

“Are we going that far to the left?” Harper asked. “This is ridiculous; this is insane; this is un-American. And for folks who think that the U.S. won the Cold War with the Soviet Union, this makes it sound like we’re going in the other direction — that indeed California is kowtowing to the Soviet domination of the Cold War.”

“And indeed, in that kitchen debate Khruschev had with Nixon, oh my God, was Khruschev right, Mr. Author?”

The Assembly read the bill three times and refused to pass it by a 27-22 vote on Thursday. But Santiago submitted a motion to reconsider it on the same day. Bill AB-3042 previously passed both the Assembly’s appropriations and education committees.

The left has learned they cannot win through conventional means so they go unconventional. Why do you think they have been inundating the .gov with their friends? In the last ten years they have seen great strides in .gov positions. As witnessed by how hard they are resisting the current administration. They seek to flood all branches of government with their compatriots. The FBI, the DOJ, the judiciary, etc. So when the time comes they can "fight fascism" (AKA resistance to their rule) behind the veneer of government.

It's the "long con". The left has always been patient. We need to start asking more questions and being more vocal.

I really wish crap like this would be the final straw that forced California to vote 'yes' on its breakup into three states. At least minimize the damage these Leftist losers can do to themselves and this country.

On the bright side, Miguel will probably enjoy the military parade the President wants to have.

Looks like the bill failed to pass the 3rd reading. A motion for reconsideration has been requested, but it is listed as inactive-failed.

Also in this bill - it proposed a "Native American Day" for the 4th Friday in September.

What is ALSO interesting - this applied only to CLASSIFIED employees at schools, and specified that schools that take either of those days off would need to have hold exercises commemorating and directing attention to the history of those events or movements.

Regular employees would also get the day off.

Nothing is mentioned about other government employees, so this is targeted towards schools only. State employees are capped in the number of holidays they can be given off in a year - any additions requires another to be removed.
