Always had bird dogs (German Wirehair, shorthair, and Weims) and always had cats. Never had any problems. The wirehair lets the cat sleep on top of him. Amazing. Whoever said you can't buy happiness forgot little puppies. Gene Hill

It's like the zoo exhibit that featured the lion and the lamb laying together. They just had to get a new lamb every three or four days.

We had a cat, then got our dog, then added another dog - never a problem. Our cat passed last year and we haven't added a new one. We do babysit a friends cat on occasion, no problems at all. That cat lives with two dogs so he easily adjusts.

My ex-GF has a problem with dogs: she loves them but can't seem to take care of them. So they end up living with me. First a GSD and now a pair of mastiff/pit mixes. The older mastiff is very mellow and grew up with a cat, he doesn't bother her and she doesn't bother him. Other cats that he sees, well that's a different story, he goes bonkers when he sees one. The younger dog is blind and doesn't really even know what a cat is, let along what to do with one if he ever caught it. But that doesn't stop him from trying; the cat goes and hides whenever he's in the house.

I grew up with dogs and cats under the same roof. German shepherds and they go along pretty well most of the time. Our one shepherd would chase this little tiger cat we had through the house, then they would come flying back out from the bedrooms with this little 3 lbs cat chasing a 90 lbs shepherd. Funny as hell!

I'm Fine |
We've introduced dogs to cats and cats to dogs. It's always been okay. They may have a few spats until they figure out who is in charge, but it will blow over. Our current dog and both cats seem to trade off being in charge. One moment the dog is chasing the cats around (in play) and then later on the cat is standing its ground and backing the dog up. I suppose there are a few dogs out there that just plain hate cats with a passion - but I have never been around one. ------------------ SBrooks

Currently, we have a 10 year old rat terrier/beagle/mutt, 2 year old beagle/Jack Russell terrier mix, and a 3 year old short haired domestic cat living under the same roof. As of yet, we have not had any aggression from either species. They’ve settled in just fine as one happy furry family.

I have a 10 year old rescued Yellow Lab who has lived with 3 cats(1 currently) and all the cats adored him. The one cat I have now is his "buddy" they hang around a lot, and even nap together. Cats and Dogs can get along just fine provided they are introduced properly, and the Dog isn't "Prey driven" one that chases every small animal. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A Veteran is someone who wrote a blank check Made payable to 'The United States of America' for an amount of 'Up to and including their life'. Ice age heat wave, cant complain. |
Absolutely. If you don't own a treadmill, get one, run the dog on it for no less than 9 hours a day, then take it out back with a tennis ball and frisbee. NRA Life Member Steak: Rare. Coffee: Black. Bourbon: Neat.

Never had a problem, and have been through it many a time. What we have always done is put the new critter in a bathroom for 24 hours, with their own food and water. Let the old ones smell around the door during that time, and then let them out the next day. Has worked for me every time. _________________________________________________ "Once abolish the God, and the Government becomes the God." --- G.K. Chesterton

We have two labs that are mature. A year-and-half ago, my daughter begged to bring a six-month old kitten home from the humane shelter. I don't like cats, but I am a sucker for my daughter and I gave in. It took a little time of keeping the dogs and the kitten apart and carefully introducing them until we were sure they would get along, but the dogs accepted the kitten well and the kitten has a very sweet disposition. In fact, she now thinks she's a dog. She follows them around and tries to act like them. It works great here, but all 3 personalities are laid back and that has been the key. BTW, I now love this cat. .

Two corgis, four cats. My girls best buddy is a fixed male. They take turns chasing each other. My big male, just ignores everybody but my wife. Same for the 15 year old female. Then there's "my" cat who chose me when she was about 6 weeks old. Nobody messes with her. My girl keeps wanting roughhouse but generally gets seated. We go have gates up so the cats can separate from the dogs. Cat food is behind a gate but one of the cats "hockey pucks" the can out to the dog. “ The work of destruction is quick, easy and exhilarating; the work of creation is slow, laborious and dull.
