Hot Bologna... aka West Virginia Steak Sandwich
Normally use the Club bologna, splurged for all beef this time
Oversize buns
I like a little tomato onion and mustard
Used a local bbq sauce Lems Meat Varnish, you can find it in Kroger’s across the east coast now I think

If you grew up poor in Appalachia you already know how good these are!

My grandmother was from Kentucky. I always thought fried bologna was a Kentucky specialty. She’d serve it in place of bacon, for God’s sake.

Bologna is a staple here in Alabama as well. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner I love it, especially with a fried egg.

Never ate a lot of bologna as a kid but that looks good!

(A few weeks ago I did discover Lebanon Bologna and I got to say, that stuff is delicious!)

We ate a lot of bologna when I was a kid in the northeast. About once a year I buy a pound and binge on fried bologna sandwiches.

While I was in Tech School, wife and I were so poor we ate more than a LOT of bologna and popcorn to survive. I have eaten bologna in every way known to man. If another piece ever graces my plate, it will be too soon. Nothing against those who enjoy it, but not for me thanks! Eek

My family hails from Southern Ohio, WV and KY.

We were not dirt poor but more along the lines of lower middle class, so bologna was a staple for lunch and some dinners. (Along with cheese sandwiches).

Plus, we had fried bologna sandwiches with cheese and these awesome buns for hot lunches during elementary school.

I used to love a good fried bologna sandwich on white bread with a tad bit of mustard.

I have to agree with bettysnephew, If I ever see another sandwich it will be way to soon.

I just cannot fathom having one now.

I will buy a two to three pound bologna chub a couple times a year and smoke it. Wife thought I was crazy the first time I did it. Now she just asked me the other day when I was going to smoke another one. I put mustard and a couple of Clausen kosher dill pickle planks on mine.

That sandwich looks great. Growing up, fried bologna was a staple. Breakfast, lunch, or supper. A pan of fried bologna along with a pot of pinto beans was a popular meal then. Toss some 1/2” slices on the grill to take it to another level.

Fried bologna and yellow mustard.
They're staple foods at the old home place. Wink
