I got to be one of the lucky ones today. Big Boy came right through my little town Cool Even talked my little sister into coming over to see it. She was not disappointed Big Grin

Sat at a little park roughly 5 minutes from me to watch it go by, then ran down to the local yard where it will be parked until tomorrow.

I managed to get a bunch of pics. Where it was sitting at the yard, I was about 30ish feet from it. Pics make it look a lot farther away tho, but it was cool Cool Cool

You look like a girl but the salmon shirt matches your skin tone. The beard on your sister doesn't look right either.

It's 2019, man. We don't judge people for their life choices! Big Grin

Also, if that pic is taken from 30 feet away, you two are fucking huge cuz the people in the background look like ants.

LOL I don't know why it looks that far away. I had a hard time seeing the settings on the phone, I probably had it set on wide view.

So it probably is a bit more than 30ish feet. I am kinda crap at guestimating distance. I was a lot closer than the pics make it look tho. Smile

What's the yellow tape and orange fence behind you - a no go zone? So, you were as close as you could get?

Cool!

Looks like you two were having a good time. Something like that doesn't come through often. Interestingly enough, 4014 seems to have the assistance of a GP40 and a powered unit behind it (?). Union Pacific seems to be the only railroad that understood nostalgia and 2019 is their 150th anniversary. They even got one of their Centennials running again and are taking it on tour also. I read somewhere that they found an old locomotive that was painted up in the original Lehigh Valley livery and it is to undergo a full restoration.

Their safety zone is a minimum of 25 feet from any active rail line at all times. It may have been the third set of tracks that was active. once they shut everything down they will let everyone get closer. It would be hard to grasp the scope and the scale of 4014 unless it is seen in person.

Thanks for sharing your day with us.

I think you can go to the UP website and they have the schedule for their Heritage Fleet.

Yup, that was as close as you could get. That was right on the edge of the outer most set of tracks and where the yard property started.

I have been looking, and I even know a guy that works in that yard, and I still don't really know why they had the extra engine. My uneducated guess is in case their was issues with the steam?

It was definitely one of those things that I just had to see. Definitely worth the vacation day from work Big Grin

Heck yeah!

FWIW Their safety zone is a minimum of 25 feet from any active rail line at all times. It may have been the third set of tracks behind you that was classified as active. Once they shut everything down they can let everyone get closer. It would be hard to grasp the scope and the scale of 4014 unless it is seen in person.

If I had could somehow take a few days off, I wouldn't miss something like that for any reason.

I got the rest of my pics and a couple videos stuffed to my google drive if anyone would like to look. I am not a pro at photography or video stuff. They were all with my phone.

The ones from the park are just basically random pics. I had the video recording and just kept tapping the screen for pics as it went by.

The rest are from the yard.

I do know the yard is off limits to the general public so where I was is as close as any "regular" person could get unfortunately.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing. I wish it came by closer to me. I never thought I would see a running Big Boy in my lifetime.

Looks like an SD70m to me.

They use the diesel as power for the passenger cars as well as a back up for 4014 if it had issues while on the main. Generally it won't be providing any tractive effort (that Big Boy sure doesn't need it Wink )

I live fairly close by and thought about going to see it until I read that it wasn't going to be accessible to the general public since it was stopping in a private yard.

Looks like you were able to get close enough that it was worth it.

I would love to watch it spool up and take off from a stop.

I really wanted to take off of work one more day so I could go and watch it leave, wasn't able to swing it tho Frown Would have been cool.

Where I originally thought it was going to be parked, I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get any close shots of it. Thankfully it ended up at that location. Cool
