Our local public works department has an oil dump station that's accessible 24/7. Just drive up, open the trap and dump. No forms. No questions. No problem.

Oiling the wood planks on a trailer or pickup truck bed will work, but usually it's cut with diesel fuel so it soaks into the wood faster.
50% - 50% mix is what I've seen recommended.
I can tell you from personal experience, a bit of rain, dew, or frost on those oiled planks, and they are DAMN slippery!

parabellumDon't got no trailer, no boiler, no underground rats.
If you think you can use it, WalMart has a couple of quarts of oil for which they did not obtain the required paperwork, so they don't know what to do with it. The poor counter guys is probably in the gulag already.

When I was a kid we used to use the waste oil on dirt roads on the ranch. It helped keep the dust down.
Of course, back then you’d plant willows in the barranca and once a year run a dozer down the bottom to clean it out. The water ran well and the willows held the banks.
These days around here they’d likely bury you under the jail for spreading motor oil or putting a dozer in a barranca or creek. Different times…

P250UA5It's been a while, but I last took mine to Advance Auto.
DIY dump in a large disposal vessel. Supposed to take your empties with you, but there's also a large trash bin next to the oil tank, full of empty 5qt jugs.
No forms, no questions.

sourdough44I mostly bring my used oil to Walmart. I use a little at times to get a brush fire raging. I don’t mind the book, one could always put fictitious info if desired. I doubt if it goes anywhere, gotta have rules you know.

PHPaulI have a 55 gallon drum in the barn for collection. When it's about 3/4 full, I take it to a local contractor's shop for his waste oil burner and he gives me an empty drum.
Win-win.

Captain MorganThere's a garbage dump by me and its very convenient to drop off oil there. Only catch is the limit oil to 5 gallons, if they're watching...

Gene HillmanLocal Chevrolet dealer gladly accepts it and uses it in a burner to heat the shop during cold months.

Calif PhilI have a waste oil furnace in my shop and welcome folks to bring me their used oil. Most are glad that it is easier for them than O'Riellys or the big barrel at the city dump.

John SteedMy Walmart has a book you're supposed to write your name and address in, and I think your signature.
I write "Joe Blow, Kokomo, Indiana".
My Dad used to do the fence row thing too, but I want to be a little more environmentally conscious than that!
When I take used oil to Walmart in the original containers, I write in large letters "USED OIL" on them with a permanent marker, for fear that some bozo will screw up and put them on the shelf with the new oil.

MikeinNCThey used to oil the dirt road on the way to my pop-pops farm. North Fla, back in the 70s&80s.

HRKAdvance doesn't have me fill out a form, and even if they did I'd put my neighbors name and address on it, like how would they tell what oil came from what person anyway.
Good friend and SF member Calif Phil has a motorcycle shop, takes used oil for his shop heater, you might find out if someone near you does that and drop it there, they can use the oil in the winter....

ridewvI used to take my oil to Advance Auto where they had a sheet on a clipboard to fill in your name, address, and quantity of oil hanging from the container in the back. I never bothered putting my name on it. They also had a 5-gallon limit which was inconvenient at times so I started taking 15-20 gallons at a time to a tow truck and mechanic shop that has a waste oil furnace.
No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

comet24We have a dump station. It takes oil and radiator fluid. Just pull up and dump it in the tanks. It's behind the vehicle facility for the public works section.

I take mine to O'Reillys too, and they just take it and dump it into a drum in the back. No questions.
Our local O'Reilly's has a State Mandated Code Scan that takes you to the State website. Walmart had it too. Like Para, it annoys the hell out of me to have to jump through hoops to do the right thing. Really, just what the fuck is the point of making responsible folks do it?
What's next, a form every time the recycle truck takes your recycle?

Probably not so great for nearby wells either.

BOATTRASH1I take my used oil, filters and fuel filters from the boat I run to the oil change place that does our vehicles. 56 gallons and they never bitch at all about it.

V-TailPep Boys used to re-refine used oil, I don't know whether they still do that.
My first car was a used 1950 two-tone (baby blue and rust, mostly rust) Studebaker that burned through oil almost as fast as I could replenish it. Navy E-2 pay was pretty low; I used the Pep Boys oil.

220-9erI suspect the real concern is that someone would bring in a container that is contaminated with something like used antifreeze or some other substance that would make their entire load get rejected at a recycling center.
Then they have to pay to get rid of it as hazardous waste, instead of getting paid for it as used oil.
