I use my USAA policy to cover me with rental cars. I damaged a fender last year driving one and USAA covered the claim with no issues and suggested I contact the credit card company about covering/paying the deductible. Visa requested the paperwork on the claim and paid the deductible.

No reason to pay for insurance from the rental car company.
