New trend in vocal speech I find very annoying

I agree this has been an ongoing thing. I recall when I was teaching almost 20 years ago asking the kids, "Are you asking me or telling me?"

It seemed to work then and I use it now when my children fall into that pattern of speech. I remind them that they sound as though they lack confidence and belief when talking that way.

Same here - it does seem to work and get them to think about how they come across to others...

That is exactly how I'm handling this with my kids. I thought it was just them doing this, I hadn't noticed it too much in public yet. I do avoid interacting with most people of that age though.

I'm pretty sure my daughter just placates me though, and attempts to correct it when she talks to me, only. She's up to about 80% of the time now. For her it was absolutely a confidence issue. Now I'm thinking there may be some peers thrown in there also.
