Wow! Got pistol whipped and still kept his head enough to remember his training and defend himself. I wish we could live in a more peaceful world.

The first act of the dashcam video shows two asshole drivers getting in an “accident”.

The second act shows straight up self defense.

I’m not sure how the entirety plays out in court.

The decedent’s family came out with predictable “didn’t do anything… racist cops… BLM…” only to eat a shit ton of crow when they were shown the video.

I’ll give them this, they admitted their idiot was an idiot.

I agree with this. The cop wasn't under any obligation to let the now-ventilated deceased over, but he could have easily eased off and allowed it. I would have let him over.

There is no doubt that this punk was on track to die early, but the off-duty cop could have easily avoided making himself the instrument of the punk's demise. Maybe he is okay with it, realizing that the punk was going to meet a violent end at some point.

In a perfect world, you might hope a cop on his way to work would play nicer in traffic with other cars.

I let these douchebags in all the time. Anything more like honking, flipping the bird, or pulling over to 'resolve' the dick-swinging contest just ain't worth it.

The outcome may have been justified, but it should never have escalated that far. If an asshole wants to cram his way into your lane just let him go ahead. As distasteful as that may be, it certainly is better than this outcome.

A pair of bully egos did the dickhead dance and both lost, IMO.

I'm always carrying. This requires at least a little leeway to the others on the road. A CCW instructor told me this long ago, "If you're going to carry a gun, leave the 'finger' at home."

It’s the same thing all of us see driving everyday. These idiots are emboldened by their phone and social media. Their brains are filled with narratives. Reality is whole different thing from your bullshit narrative. I wish the citizens of this nation had the same ability to enforce FAFO. Then we could change the narrative.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Yep, two donkeys fighting over a turnip, the whole thing could have been avoided by either party.

Main Character Syndrome. They're the hero, they'll win, how could it be any other way when you're the Main Character? It never occurs to them that the extras they see wandering around the world are actually other, real, people.

1) Especially when carrying a firearm, one should endeavor to avoid such confrontations. In this case it could have easily been avoided.

2) The officer should have been on higher alert; guy gets out of the car aggressively with his hand in his pocket, the officer should not have been surprised like he was.

3) Great response by the officer, great reaction time, and clearly a justified shooting.

4) The dashcam was critical in this situation and we should all think hard about getting one if you don't already have one.

5) Even though the shooting was justified, the officer is lucky that a stray round didn't go into a house or vehicle across the street and injure or kill someone. One excellent reason to avoid this situation.

6) Kudos to the family for quickly admitting that the shooting was justified. This seemed to me to be a legitimate attempt to help community relations. Yes, the video made it obvious, but I don't remember ever seeing a family take this step.

You are only seeing what the dashcam caught. You have NO IDEA what happened in the previous minutes of this entire thing. For all we know this now-dead-idiot may have been flashing his gun at the driver or making some other threatening moves.

Doubtful. The officer would have been talking about any prior incident with the Genesis driver.

Don’t get me wrong, the Genesis driver had no business running into the officer’s vehicle. The street my house is on connects to a boulevard road just like the one in the video. There’s always a lane closed down for the garbage truck, recycle truck, mailman, UPS/FedEx/Amazon driver, pool guy, lawn guy, etc. As a driver in the free flowing lane, I have two choices, slow down a bit and let a vehicle in the blocked lane merge or not. The officer had the same choice.

Nobody has to threaten me with a gun in order for me to let them get in my lane. And if they do, I’m going to take every opportunity to avoid further confrontation with them, not get in a fender bender with some deranged imbecile.

Family of black man gunned down by off-duty cop admits shooting was ‘justified,’ gets video released to ‘quell’ rumors
quote:
...
While the police department typically waits 15 days before releasing videos of officer-involved shootings to the public, Wilks’ family wanted it to be released as soon as possible to “quell misinformation.”

“We will acknowledge that we believe this officer-involved shooting was justified,” the family’s attorney, B’Ivory LaMarr, said at a news conference.

“We acknowledge that (Wilks) made a bad decision yesterday and unfortunately it came with dire consequences,” he said, acknowledging the officer shot back “in accordance with his training.”

“The Wilks family has seen the truth for themselves. Now they want the public to see it too. They are choosing truth over rumor — transparency over division.”

Wilks’ aunt, Latrice Bell, said the family did not intend to file any lawsuits and was “at rest” with what the video showed.

“My nephew, he made a decision he should not have made and that’s just something we have to live with,” the aunt said.

Wilks’ family said he had been driving to his uncle’s funeral when he flipped, suggesting that could be why he acted violently and out of character.

The West Allis Police Department is leading the investigation into the shooting.
