Wife and I have been on Keto since 1/1. (23 pounds). Since our restaurants are closed, we pick up a burger from time to time and a Dave’s triple is just right without the bun.

Wendy’s only allowed a double tonight. Not only has the meat shortage screwed up my Wendy’s order but Costco had no chicken breast or Jimmy Dean Sausage.

You're traveling through another dimension -- a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind, and no meat.

There are many factors in play with these shortages, in my opinion.
Sale barn prices are pretty bad right now. Feedlots aren’t buying because packing plants are shutting down (not all, but some), employees out sick, etc.
if buyers aren’t filling contracts (buying cattle) prices go down. It seems the producer has nearly always taken the hit during times like these.

Meat, I got meat. But it’s on the hoof. Most of my calves should be ready around September/October-ish.
I hate to just give them away at the sale barn, but selling directly to individuals has its own set of headaches.
However, if prices don’t improve, I may be forced into that.
After I fill my own freezer, that is. Smile

On a side note, I have noticed that the expensive cuts at the grocer seem to be about the same price. But the lower end cuts of meat (round steak, burger, etc. ) have gone up.

I’ve noticed the opposite locally. I’ve been picking up great deals on Prime and even Wagyu selections at my local H-E-B way cheaper than before; still more expensive than the Choice stuff, but the gap has shrunk. The vacuum sealer has been getting a work out as I’ve been freezing strips, ribeyes, skirt (wagyu), and even a wagyu chuck roast that’s destined to be a killer pot roast before long.

Just like gas, while I enjoy the savings in the short term, I know it’s not healthy for the industry and I’d gladly take a price increase in trade for the cattle/oil & gas industry getting back on track.

I'm gonna start using my 5 year old gas that I used Pri-G on and refreshing the tanks, seems like the perfect time.

I’ve found around my area (DC burbs) that there is a lot of beef, some of it on sale, good deals

There is hardly any pork or any sort. There is no chicken at all. It’s been that way every time I’ve been.

I’m going to the Harris teeter near me tomorrow to get some stuff to grill out because the blue angels and thunderbirds are going to fly directly over my house at about noon, so I’ll report back then.

The irony is right now millions and millions of pigs and chickens are being euthanized and buried in farms because there is no room at the slaughter/packing houses and the growers can’t keep feeding them.

It’s not even possible to get these to food banks.

It’s a huge waste and a financial killer for the industry.

Any first hand knowledge of the killing taking place?

Plants are shut down around here. They will reopen soon due to Trump's actions.

But I know of no killing/euthanizations taking place around here.
Talking, yes. Taking place, no.

Still in stock for now around here. If you're up for the trip down 66 I'll pick something up for you. Or I can do a scouting mission in AM and tell you where to head.

I’ve seen two posts in my husbands feed on social media where a pig farmer (May be the same one) appealed to the public before slaughtering his pigs because the large scale purchaser couldn’t buy.

$150.00 would buy the pig, and he had a regional processor that would process it, you’d pay/lb for the hanging weight. I already have half a chest freezer full from my small local piggery right here, otherwise I would’ve looked into it. I would like to find a beef farmer for a half or quarter, and chicken.
But, yes, I believe this is real, and what a tremendous and sad waste it is. Farmers should definitely be able to go straight to the public, but as mentioned, then you get a whole host of issues, starting with letting them near your farm (never mind PETA, a lot of them probably have very strict protocols on cleanliness). So fricking sad.

To be fair to Jimmy Dean, I don't see how even 16 oz of sausage is enough to feed 600 pound of men plus a couple plump ladies. LOL

And to think, Wendy's used to have "Where's the beef?" commercials.

My wife read a couple of articles and saw the hand writing on the wall. Went to Ranch Food Direct last weekend and stocked up on the good stuff.
