I made a rather expensive purchase on line, with a reputable company. Purchase price for the two identical items was $950 with free shipping and no tax. Items arrived, boxed, brand new condition, but were NOT as described. I purchased the items specifically due to the description. I called the Customer Service number and the purchase was verified, as was the listed description. So, how do I return the items?

"Keep them, or donate them and we are issuing a full refund to your credit card."

Seriously? "Yes".

The following day the refund to my credit card was 100% complete.

I'm still WTF.

I'm unsure about identifying the company, however, they sell furniture and advertise nationally on television.

Well, good for them. But it is odd.

Eh, if it's furniture then I'm sure RMAs would be expensive and may be particularly expensive compared to manufacturing costs.

Sometimes, for large, heavy items, it's cheaper for them to write it off than to take it back and sell again as an open box item. I bought a Variac from a Chinese seller on eBay for $68. It arrived dented pretty badly from the poor packing job, but still worked fine. Seller offered me a $30 refund rather than take it back. I also had FedEx trash a 65 lbs. amp head I shipped. They didn't want it after they paid me for it, asked how much I'd take for a settlement and I get to keep the amp. I told them $1500. They sent me $2200 anyway, refunded my shipping and delivered the amp back to me. I repaired it and sold it again. That worked out well.

Furniture is like 75% markup and profit.

I wont buy anything until we get close to 50% of advertised prices.

Amazon will do this with gas powered items once they've been filled with gas.

The freight on a large piece of furniture, depending on where its coming from and where it's delivering can be quite significant.
