The new short form doesn't take much time; it only has three lines.
  1. How much did you make?

  2. How much did you spend?

  3. How much do you have left? Send it.

I’m still waiting on my $2k from the government, that has evidently lost my 2020 taxes. That were electronically filed. By the same CPA that screwed up and cost me the $2k, so who knows.

Still collecting documents for last year.

I think we’re 90% complete. But seriously, the IRS can choke on a dick.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

Got the 1099s from Mrs. Flash's County Retirement and both of ours from Social security plus several from banks so all I'm waiting on to finish is the Stock and bond paperwork which will arrive around the end of this month.

Plug it into TurboTax and I'm done. Couldn't be easier.

We’re still waiting for two documents but we’re prepared. Everything else is printed and checked.

Regular stuff that I do is on a tickler file.

I started my tax planning in December to figure out what and how much income to recognize. This year I'll start in November instead. After I was done in December, my next milestone is Feb 10 when I finish downloading my preliminary tax documents. Then I have to wait until Feb 19 to download any second round of 1099s. Then I file my taxes.

Feb 25, I set up review the template for next year's tax returns.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I’ll wait until into Feb at least. I muddle through on TurboTax, fairly straightforward return.

I don’t expect much if any back anyway.

Both federal and our state government are apparently way behind, even by their formerly slow, inefficient, standards.
I learned years ago to just collect my records and hand them off to a CPA that I trust.
Mine isn't that complicated but I have a sub-S corp, my wife is self employed (realtor) and other thing that would take me much longer to do myself. At the speed I do things, I'd be earning less than minimum wage.

Isn't January 31st the final day to send 1099s?? I always seem to get mine weeks later. Many of them have significant errors.

I'll be starting on mine right around 4/14 as usual.

Had our tax prep meeting w/ accountant 2 days ago and e-filed. Hopefully she didn't screw anything up this year. Last year (early Feb '21) she forgot to send 1 piece of documentation, and the IRS requested it 6 weeks later. She sent it in right away, and we got our federal refund for last year, finally deposited 4 weeks ago. At that point, I was relieved, after hearing about 18-24 month delays for some folks!

I usually have mine completed and submitted by the end of January. However, documents are extra slow to arrive this year. Still waiting on a few.

But I've gone ahead and done what I can.

For some of them, it is, but not for others.

For instance, I'm waiting on 1099-DIV forms and they have until February 28, 2022.

Mine's almost ready to give to the CPA. Still waiting on brokerage 1099's; JPM Chase says I won't get them until 2/15.
