Sounds like you were at the museum in Pooler GA. I went there to see the ME162 years ago and there were a few guys that were vets from bombers telling their stories.
That's absolutely it, I was staying at that best western right there beside it and trying to waste a day off! Thanks for the info.
10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

When you realize that your wife, kids, and grand kids are way more important than yourself. This hit me about 5 years ago. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Bytes,

When you look forward to bedtime for sleep rather than a time to screw.
"I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation."

There's been other instances....but this one was somewhat sobering....
I was at the range competing in 22 speed steel with a pack of some of the local college pistol team. Good natured ribbing for various foibles from one the the other was common, when suddenly one of the older other guys made sort of a rude comment about how much faster 'the kids' were than 'I' was in the last couple stages.
Without actually formulating the thought, I informed him my 5 digit RST4 pistol (Ruger) was 3 times older than any of them, and I was older than the pistol!!! I felt great being even near their faster times.
Once a younger guy at the range asked 'how old are you?' When I responded that 'the fins on the Enola Gay were barely cooling down from taxiing down the run way after doing its job'....he looked blank and said "What's the Enola Gay?"

I guess diff people have diff interests. My then third grade grandson called me out of the blue, asked "grandpa, what is the link between Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima?" That's something he didn't get from anything in school.
But you have me thinking. I wonder what the standard American History curriculum is for much of K-12 public education these days. I know my other grandson told me what an evil person Christopher Columbus was.

You just made me realize, I am the oldest surviving male on both sides of my family.
Though my mom and her three sisters are still vertical, none except my two brothers and I (and our kids) are on our father's side.

I just turned 60 and was delivering some cabinets form my shop, and a younger guy I will say 45, asked me if I needed help as I wasn't a spring chicken anymore.
The same day I was at a gun store inserted my credit card and the younger clerk said you can take it out now, and I said "thats what she said" he cracked up and said I didn't expect that from a guy your age. I sure a heck dont feel or look old imo. WTH?

You're officially "older" when your wife runs out of the house screaming that there's a goat in the bathroom when all you were doing was leaning into the tub to test the water.

I barely remember “older”. I am too busy being “old”.

I just turned 67 and while I have been a pretty responsible adult and parent for the last 30 years I have thought about being "old" more in the last couple of years and especially when I see an old classmate or friend pass. While I don't dwell on knowing that my life expectancy is probably less than 10 years (I am in good health btw) it is something that I do think about more often so for me the age would have been about 65 for being older

I became older when I cut my comb over off and about the same time I was dating took a younger woman out, asked for a second date and she said no, she wouldn’t go out with a guy who wore polyester pants

I did that at 28, when I went back to finish my Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, an educational choice he recommended (he got his Master’s degree in sanitary engineering at UNC Chapel Hill in 1957) and I rejected.
When I told him he was right to recommend that life course, he replied “I bet that hurt to say.”
For all his faults, which were many and extreme in some cases, thanks Father. You were right.
This.
I believe I was 25-26.
He was my stepdad - father wasn't in picture.
Our eyes met - and we both knew it had happened.
I was lucky to have lived that long.
Glad you experienced that, too.

When you are helping a young one in grade school with their homework and they have a History test coming up.
The look on their face of total belief when you tell them, with a straight face "Of course I remember that, when I was your age we didn't have History Class yet, it was all Current Events".
