Shades of JFK, Jr. all over again...
JFK Jr was private pilot earning his Instrument rating. By the sounds of it, Kobe was not the pilot. Sounds like scud running into a mountain.
My post was not to implicate Bryant as the pilot. It was to correlate exactly what you stated...scud running over the ocean/scud running into a mountain. Both CFIT incidents and BOTH avoidable had competent pilots been at the controls. My thinking is that the VAST majority of the time, the weather is VFR in Cali therefore most pilots don't spend a lot of time in actual instrument conditions. And it bites them square in the ass when they try to fly in actual. Pity...

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24 January 27, 2020, 07:45 AM

It sounds to me like this is an instance when the pilot should have known his limitations.
He should have said, "I'm sorry, but we are not taking off under these conditions."
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Really?
They’re dead
And somehow a magical prayer helps them?
Never understood this superstition.
Why not just rub a rabbits foot for them too?
Just what the hell is your problem?
Oh I see, a sweet sentiment and you’re all gushy?
People die every day
Did he pray for them when they were alive?
Makes no sense
Sweet syrupy thought tho
I just don’t get it

There seems to be universal outrage directed at TMZ for breaking the news before family could be notified. Other than custom, why is that so important? The bad news is not going to change based on when and how it's learned. Is it any better to get this kind of news from a stranger in a uniform standing on your porch? Admittedly I have not been through it so I am generally interested in other's take on the issue.
Something I haven't done in awhile, I surfed the major networks this morning at 7am, all were treating this story as if the POTUS died. I understand Bryant's death is news, but the overkill is sickening, IMO. I almost need a shower from watching.
TMZ, ABC, NBC, they are
all the same. At least TMZ was trying to tell the truth, and yet we have media outlets who produce fake news all of the time, and are never called on it by the same folks criticizing TMZ. A bunch of hypocrites.

Flashlightboy99.9999% of the forum had no true personal connection with JAllen outside of this forum and yet he connected with people in a very human way with just his postings.
How is the connection people had Kobe any less or diminished? I never met JAllen but I read and admired most everything he posted. I never met Kobe but admired his skill at doing something none of us can do and I hate basketball.
If we're going to go harsh on people we've never met but feel a connection, let's make sure we include everyone here too.

Not surprised you don't get it...
This is the point where you shut-the-fuck-up-and-move-along...out of this thread.
