I have zero issues with doctors or surgery but have bad memories of waking up feeling like I was suffocating or drowning before the CPAP and don't want that to happen while I'm under and have something down my throat. I'm sure I'll be fine.
Thanks everyone so far for all the info

Todd HuffmanI had the endoscopy and the coloscopy done the same day. Best sleep I ever had. I woke up wondering if they used the same camera.

FlashlightboyYou'll be 100% out with the Michael Jackson drug. You'll count back from 100, get to 94, and the next thing you know you'll be in recovery. Woozy for a couple hours and you can't drive. Throat sore for a day or so which is a good ex use to eat ice cream.
It's a piece of cake.

Michael Jackson died. It is best not to refer to Propofol as "the Michael Jackson drug", especially in the pre-op area.
To the OP: I, too, do these on a regular basis. It'll be a piece of cake. Ten minute nap, and other than (maybe) a bit of a sore throat, you won't know what hit you. You'll be fine. If you're really wound up about it, ask your anesthesiologist for a little Versed ahead of time, but it is really not necessary. Again...you'll be fine.

onegeek‘Conscious sedation’ meant I didn’t remember shit. Whatever they told me after, I have no idea. If it wasn’t in the take home printout I would have had no idea of what they told me in recovery.

I did have Barrett's and with the use of Omeprazole, it's been non-detectible for 30 years now.
Mars,
I was diagnosed with GERD quite a few years back. Back then, my doctor also prescribed Omeprazole (also known as Prilosec). This was about 15 years ago. He prescribed me a bunch of refills for it (they were 40 mg tablets, as I remember).
Once I ran out of the prescription Omeprazole, I simply started using Over the Counter Prilosec, only 20 mg. I take it every day, and I find it's enough to completely eliminate symptoms. I've now been taking that daily for almost 15 years.
But lately, my family doctor has been urging me to stop taking Prilosec, stating it was never intended for long term use, and can cause cancer. But every time I try to wean off of it, symptoms come back. I even try to ease of the Prilosec and try to use other traditional anti-acids instead, but nothing works as well as the Prilosec.
I had my Gall-Bladder removed, which probably aggravates my symptoms, but daily use of Prilosec eliminates the symptoms. Have you ever been warned or urged to stop taking Omeprasole/Prilosec?

StlheadUntreated GERD is bad and causes cancer, omeprazole (however it is spelled) cures GERD, but may cause cancer. I choose the treated GERD and the risk of cancer over the near certainty of it along with the misery of untreated GERD. BUT, that is just my untrained opinion and anyone who has or could have GERD should seek qualified medical advice and form their own opinion. Also the scope in the pie hole is no big deal.

nhracecraftFor many, altering your diet can also mitigate (eliminate?) GERD, without the concerns and/or side affects associated with prescription/OTC drugs...Just sayin'

I had this. Needed both, asked the doc about a 2-for-1 on the anesthesia. It lowered my overall cost, and if they used the same camera I'll never know!
I started on daily ranitidine about 12 years ago, then switched to famotidine when the FDA took ranitidine off the market in 2020. Now I'm reading that ranitidine is back, but I see no reason to switch. OTC generic famotidine is dirt cheap and takes care of the GERD symptoms for me with one 20 mg pill per day.

badguybusterI have had 3 done. One was durimg surgery after I got shot (LEO) and another after being trampled by a horse which required my stomach to be pulled back down out of my upper chest and then a 3rd several months later to ensure everything was still good. Grace be to GOD all is well

Ditto.
I had a cystocopy (which is a type of endoscopy) two weeks ago. They refused to put me under because insurance wouldn’t pay for it.
It was a pretty quick procedure, but every second of it was unpleasant.

SIG4EVADude, no sweat at all. I had an endo and colonoscopy done last year. They put you under and wake you up. It was that easy.

PASigUpdate:
Just got done and it went quickly and well and like the hose up the ass, this was one damn good nap!
Doc says I had a little gastritis that looked to be healing on its own and a tiny spot of what could possibly be Barrett’s but they have to look at the biopsy and he didn’t seem too concerned.
I did realize I had been taking Naproxen two at a time pretty regularly back in summer/fall and wonder if that was messing up my stomach. When this doc mentioned that stuff was no good for your stomach back in mid-Dec when I had my consult with him, I immediately ceased taking it then and haven’t had any up to this point.
He is going to put me on Omeprazole

ZSMICHAELBe sure and take it a HALF Hour before meals. Taking it later just defeats the purpose of the medication.
