We missed a HUGE bullet with Dorian, a cat 5 sitting on S Florida would have been devastating.

That said, it didnt and down here we had strong WNW winds that flattened the ocean out and brought in big swells. Bit of a beach break but made for some great body surfing that last few days!

Monday was exciting, as I was being ripped down the beach waiting for a wave, a small Blacktip shark swam behind me about 15 yards away following a small pod of dolphins! Yesterday the waves were bigger but still beach break. A few times I pushed the ride a bit long and got hammered on the beach. I watched huge swells breaking on the 2nd reef.

Still a blast but the old body hurts just a bit more afterward. Rode my bike home in the poring rain. I'm still getting sand out of my ears! I only use small, short blade open heal fins, no hand paddles.

Oh man that is fun! I am just a bit too far inland to hop on my bike to hit the beach but East Orlando to the beach isn't bad.

I may just have to sneak out...

When I lived close to Gulf Shores Alabama I used to do it a bunch, I worked in a independent pharmacy and after a night of body surfing I was pretty scraped up, a local doctor came in to shoot the breeze and asked me who drug me around on the carpet, when I told him I had been body surfing he said you jackass you know that i’m County coroner and if the bring you in after a night of body surfing i’ll Split you wide open. So I told him doc it won’t bother me, I will be dead, we all got a laugh out of that.

I admit I tried it about 40 years ago on a CA vacation. I almost ended up on the 6pm news. I didn't do any better on a board though. Walking the beach was more my speed.

Yes, body surfed in Maui this past January as it was my first time to surf. Body surfed until I could stand up on the surfboard. Hooked, I'm going again next April. Thank God almighty for a friend with timeshare. I could not afford to go there otherwise.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

My body is no longer surf able, I believe. More like a small water craft.

Best bodysurfing I ever tried was on Kauai. Unbelievably long runs. Makapuu on Oahu is exiliarating as well, actually much more challenging (even dangerous).

Before the Park Service ruined the primitive camping area at Assateague Island National seashore, we used to go there from the time I was born until I hit my late teens. We all learned to body surf as kids and would do it all day.

Now my family and I go to Ocean City MD every year and whenever I’m in the water I’m body surfing. I’m trying to teach the kids how to as well.

Makapuu was nice. Sandy Beach was my regular spot. Also had some great days at Point Panic.

Never body surfed Hawaii (although went diving there) but one of the best spots I rode was in S Carolina. Even small waves you just rode them forever! Only downside, I was out there in the late evening as the sun was going down and got bumped by a shark, small one, but man it was like getting hit with a 2x4, left a nice mark on my ankle for a couple of days, got out quick, no sense in waiting around for the tax man to come back and collect....
