working on a video for Veterans day. Would like to make sure I have my ducks in a row.

Is there a latin version of This We'll Defend for the Army? I translated it but its Very long.

Are these the correct Mottos? I never trust the interwebs.

Army - This We'll Defend
Marines - Semper Fidelis - Always Faithful
Navy - Non sibi sed patriae - not for self but country
airforce - Uno Ab ALto - One over all
Coast Guard - Semper Paratus - ALways ready

No "official" Latin for the Army motto.

It would be best left as is.

Be sure to share your video.

Thanks. Smile

From wikipedia:

quote:
"Semper Fortis" (English: "Always Courageous"), (official)
"Non sibi sed patriae" (English: "Not for self but for country") (unofficial)

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

I've been out of the AF for a couple of years now but I don't ever remember "One over all."

I know that they were looking for something like the Marines had but there was never anything official. Last I knew, the AF was using "Aim High."

The current Air Force slogan “Aim High... Fly-Fight-Win”. Meh....

Hedley Lamarr: Wait, wait, wait. I'm unarmed.
Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists.
Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed.

"Aim High" is correct. I have seen it plastered over their urinals.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I don't think the USAF has ever really had an official motto like the Army or Marines, but the current one is pretty lame:

"Aim High ... Fly-Fight-Win"

The Army's motto "This We'll Defend" is in Eglish and has always been, there is no Latin like the other services' mottos.

That was for officers, for us poor enlisted types it was "Room Service, I want to order....." Wink

I was told the Navy's Unofficial Motto was "Don't Scratch The Paint. Bring it back better than when you went out." Big Grin
