I need to poll the collective intelligence about the above topic. Two granddaughters, one two and a half and the other soon to be five. Vehicle must accommodate them both at the same time.

There is such a wide variance in prices - which would seem to me to indicate a wide variance in quality. Looking for the best value - cost/benefit.

So, parents, grandparents, any experience with these and if so what would you recommend?

Thanks for any help.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

The neighbor purchased one for hi 1st kid, as they have 5000 sq. Ft. Of drive way.

He said it got used for four months and then ignored

The second kid used it for three months and forgot about it.

The neighbor said it was a waste of money. They use the swing set / jungle gym for years.

My kids have a Power Wheels Ford Raptor.

At our old house, there were 16 kids in our double cu de sac. It was ridden hard by the lot of them & still works great.

It has a lockout for the high gear (phillips screw that blocks the 'shifter' access to high gear).

My 9 yr old is borderline too big for it & she's a bit taller than most in her grade/class.

I don't recall cost, as it was a Christmas gift years ago. IIRC, we've had it for about 6 years.

The motor has enough grunt that I could somewhat sit in/on it & it would tote me around, I was probably around 150lbs back then.

Only has 2 seats, and a tiny truck bed with tailgate.

We had another neighbor with a side-by-side atv looking power wheels. Wasn't nearly as quick as the Raptor, but was fine for kid use, more beginner friendly.

Power Wheels are the best followed by Peg Perego.
Try finding a model that seem the fit the kids personality.
The Power Wheels Dune Racer is a pretty good one.

The oldest boy is getting a gas powered Ranger so I felt the old power wheels for the younger two needed some more juice.
I rewired ours to use my 18v power tool batteries! Ease battery swaps instead of waiting forever for the original battery to charge.
Has a low voltage cut off so it does no damage the batteries and a motor speed controller so I can set the speed based upon who is driving it.

My friend gave me a Peg Perego JD Gator for our grandsons, it went through both of his grandsons, thing it's about ten years or so old. Replaced the original battery and both rear tires this year. Seems that his youngest would do sidewalk burnouts along with with reverse slams that made them so thin that they started to break up this year.

And it will cart my 170 lb ass around too.

LOL. I was just going to say - Lowe's took Black's idea and ran with it. No need to rewire your 18V power tool batteries. Lowe's has already done it.

They were demo-ing one of these at my local store just the other day. Quite a few dads seemed intrigued.

And when junior outgrows his toy, you can pop the batteries out and give him the Kobalt lawnmower for his next birthday.

Our daughter convinced us to go in with her and give one to our grand daughter when she around four. It was a small, battery operated "jeep". She liked it at first and rode it around quite a bit at first but then lost interest after maybe six months. It got used less and less and we ended up selling it off Craigslist after a year. That thing was over two bills.

Save your money and give them a 10 year subscription to a can of Slime instead. They will be much more entertained. Smile

We just purchased one for our daughter for Christmas. Its a cheapy and I dont expect too much. It was still $180. Bought the extended warranty for $20.

Dont assume just because the vehicle has two seat backs that two kids will actually fit. You have to look at the measurements. Im my research if its under $300 two kids will NOT fit.

We had a Power Wheels Jeep that survived my four kids, was gifted to another young mother, survived her kids and was just sent to yet another family. I replaced the battery once. Surprisingly, these things are rather bullet proof. It fit two kids fine.

We bought a power wheels jeep for our two kids about 30 years ago.
When the original battery started to die I hogged out the front under the front hood and installed a 12V car battery, no power shortage after that.

Also, look for used ones on Craigslist. My neice and nephew have had about 20 different power wheels of all shapes and sizes, because my dad constantly finds them for 20-25 bucks needing only a new battery. Quick trip to batteries plus, and they're back in business.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."
