Is that the series called "Series 2?" There's one of those (and a coupe!) in a field I drive by each day. One day, I'll stop in and have a look at it [and its state of disrepair].
God bless America.

That is the Roadkill Draguar. It was a 1974 Jaguar XJ12 with a 350 Chevy dropped in it. They started that Roadkill build in 2012.

The S-Type and the Lincoln LS were close kin. The Jag was borrowing suspension bits, but the Lincoln was using Jag engines. Both of those were super nice with the rare Getrag manual that was very uncommon.
The X-Type took a few things from the Mondeo but it was at least 3/4 Jag. I had a 2006. That car was a great handling car with the AWD system, fun in N Ga mountains. But I let it go in 2020 because I wasn’t going to throw down $4500 on a ABS module for a $3500 street value car.
Nope, I worked at Ford in the 90's. The S-Type and LS are the same platform, code named DEW98. They were as similar mechanically as a Taurus was to a Sable. Same guts different skin. The 3.9L V-8 was partially derived from a Jaguar design but built by Ford.
The X-Type was a Mondeo/Contour/Mystique with the same Ford V-6's. They added AWD because a FWD Jaguar was not going to be marketable.
The XJ and XK were still "real Jaguars" but the X and S were Ford derivatives designed by Ford. Trying to say these cars were some percent Jaguar and some percent Ford is pointless.
Turned out this was a big mistake because loyal Jaguar customers preferred to keep Jaguar a premium brand with no entry level or mid level cars, just premium cars. The idiot Europeans Ford put in charge (we used to call FAO - Ford Automotive Operations - "Foreign Accents Only") in the 90's thought they could be like BMW and have 3, 5, and 7 series equivalents. They also thought commonizing the Taurus to the higher cost Volvo S80 platform would somehow save money.

That’s fun to know, Lefty — I worked for a brake manufacturer in the 90s and saw a good bit of DEW98. I think it never really clicked with me that the S-type was DEW, too. I do remember the Ford/Jag partnership/rivalry, though, as well as Lincoln’s hassle with Lexus over the “LS” moniker.
I see a few Lincoln LS around still — there’s one in my neighborhood, actually.
