Oh stewardess, I speak jive. |
From the Beeb:
Current population: 20 Location: California side of Nevada border, in the desert. Though I'm pro legalization, this just strikes me as funny and silly. But hey, knock yourselves out. I wouldn't mind owning an entire town, too, but for different reasons.

Yeah, no. State Police, and county sheriffs will still police there. It's not like it becomes a sovereign nation. People will still get arrested, still get citations, etc.

And terrible munchies. I'm opening a 24 hour Cheeto stand just outside of town. Nice is overrated "It's every freedom-loving individual's duty to lie to the government." Airsoftguy, June 29, 2018

I think it's awesome. I'm all for renewable energy and freedom. If private enterprise wants to use for experiment to show green can be cost effective, great. If they want to create resort town for those that wish to toke, great. Have a great time guys, as long as I don't have to subsidize any of it. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

Think about it a second. If you can't put your money in a federally chartered bank, and you don't want piles of cash lying around while you wait for the next home invasion/armed robbery/whatever, what do you do? You invest in land. The deed will be safe in the courthouse. And if your company town has a police force, well, you may actually get a pretty quick response if you dial 911. If you're a major taxpayer in the county and employ any real number of people in the region, the county mounties and the staties may be fairly cooperative as well. Strange but true - this move could make one hell of a lot of sense. Yes, as well as sinse.

Officer: Do you know how fast you were going? Dude in pulled over car: Well, you know officer, sometimes you get distracted and your foot your foot presses down a little too hard... Officer: Do you have ANY idea how fast you were going?!? Dude: Like I said, I wasn't really watching the speedometer...I'm not sure. Officer: You were going 8 miles an hour! _______________________________________________________ despite them

Then again you can buy police spec'd cars and motorcycles, you won't need a concealed carry permit because you can name yourself Chief or Deputy or Hisshonher, open carry for you! Maybe get some federal grant money a few APC for free, some housing federal grant money to build a subdivision or condo complex, call it Stoner Manor.

When You buy a town, who are you buying it from? I can understand the homes and businesses but what about the public buildings, the roads? sidewalks, Sewage/water Treatment plant. Post Office, etc? Who owns a town? State, County, Local Residents?

In this case, I don't read that the town was incorporated. Therefore, I would say it is all private ownership. Just guessing, but if an incorporated municipality was sold, debts would be settled with available cash/investments/property liquidation and any surplus would be disbursed to either residents or taxpayers of record from (say) the approval of sale.

+1 Also, it would be pretty clear your duties required full auto, silenced equipment. And, range time would be either paid for by the town, or deductible- that'd be cool. And would have to hire someone to clean the weapons after the range, now that I think about it. Wouldn't want the Chief to be tied up with that chore, now would we?
