Geez, lighten up. Really. It's a euphemism used to amuse you about the relationship between a man and his wife. You know: Happy wife, happy life and all that.

Some of us have a sense of humor and get it just fine.

Along the lines of jokingly (but only part jokingly, that's also part of the joke) referring to your wife as 'the boss' or 'my better half'.
