Social Security - Medicare Question
When you are receiving social security and paying Medicare from it, is your Medicare payment credited to Medicare in your benefit month or is it credited in the next month - the month you actually get your social security payment posted to your bank account?

Reason for the question - My wife plans to file for social security and we're currently paying quarterly Medicare payments. I want to time the start of social security (and the automatic Medicare payments) so we don't double pay or under-pay Medicare.

My SS payment is the fourth Wednesday of every month. My Medicare payment is payed at the beginning of every month. Hope that helps.

I don't recall just how it all started when I went on the system.

My wife was paying quarterly, then applied for social security. She overpaid, and she got a refund check for the overpayment. It was the correct amount too!

I believe you receive SS in arrears but in any case, they will give you a refund if you happen to overpay.

I was in a similar situation. When I started SS, it transitioned seamlessly. There was no overpay or backpay needed. Actually, I believe that was posted on the SSA website when I signed up.
