M-11Tire safety question
My OEM tires are 225/65-17s. If I need to go to a 235/65-17 for the tire I want will that affect the rim/bead seating? The larger size would be about .4" wider tread and .5" taller sidewall. Speedometer affect would be about +1 mph. Thanks

You will be just fine. 10 mm in width, makes the sidewall 6.5 mm taller (on a 65 series tire). No concerns at all.
To give you some perspective, I had 245/65/16 and went to 265/75/16. Now that the truck is lifted, when I get new tires again, I’ll go with a 285/75/16. Wheels will stay the same.
Life is good.

M-11Thank you, sir. I suspected it was a relatively minor issue, but wanted confirmation from the 'family experts'.

trapper189Does the width of your current rim fall into the range of acceptable widths (6.5" - 8.5") of the tire you'd like to mount on it? If so, then you are good to go.

bobtheelf255/60 17 would give you the exact same diameter if your wheel is wide enough and the tire you want comes in that size.
It really comes down to the width of your wheel.

jimmy123xI agree, 10mm wider shouldn't be an issue with 7" wide rims.

bonfireThis is a good site for tire comparison.

cruiser68Each tire manufacturer will list appropriate rim sizes for each size of their tire. I would stay within the manufacturer's specification but they usually offer a range for each size tire.
