Since we've moved, our kids will be taking the bus to/from school instead of being in walking distance. We're thinking about getting the oldest a phone, but don't want to go all in with something like an iPhone. Wife found Gabb & seems like a decent alternative for younger users. Anyone have Gabb or know much about it past what their site provides? The Enemy's gate is down.

My neighbor across the street has Gabb watches for both of her kids. She said that their first phone will be a Gabb. Someone asked what their use case is and she replied:
She just posted yesterday about a promo code "GABBGIVES" for a free phone or watch while supplies last. $30 activation fee and must keep active for 6 months. Update on this. We got our oldest (11) the Gabb phone & our middle (8) the watch. Both are currently being replaced, about 3 months after activation. The watch takes 5 minutes to get precisely right on the charger to maintain charging & sometimes just stops charging. The phone (a ZTE, android based device) got stuck in an unrecoverable boot loop. My wife dealt with Gabb CS & was not impressed with how hard she had to push for a resolution on devices that are less than 3 months old & not abused. Both girls give us the phones to be charged in our room overnight. Service-wise, they've been great. Devices, not bad, apart from the wonky charging on the watch & likely defect on the ZTE. Customer service, C-/D for how they've handled this. The Enemy's gate is down.
