| A large is adequate for a family of 4. I've been to a couple of KJ cookouts and they load the crap out of em.
Hedley Lamarr: Wait, wait, wait. I'm unarmed. Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists. Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed. |

| My Big Green Egg has been fantastic. A buddy bought a used Komodo Joe which are referred to as his Chinese made imitation big green egg :-)

| I started a thread about 6 months ago with the same question on here, you might be able to find it.
Anyways, after looking at both the BGE and KJ really really hard. I came to the conclusion that the Kamado Joe, is everything the BGE should have become. I bought mine at the Costco road show (classic II) back in June, I use the hell out of it, 3-4 times a week. I've done beer can chicken, smoked chicken, ribs, steaks, fish, you name it on there. I love the divide and conquer rack system because I grill a lot of veggies. So, a lot of times I will just use half the ceramic disc on one side and normal grate on the other. I felt the oven type gasket, the lid hinge especially, the divide and conquer system, ash tray system, the top vent, and the stand were all big improvements over the BGE. |

| I've had my Large BGE for about 15 yrs. and have read a lot about the other ceramics too. If you do a lot of ribs, the primo might be the way to go but I don't think you can go wrong w/ the main three mentioned. So I'm not even going to vote. |

Thanks for the reminder. Found it. I remember reading that the first time around but it didn’t come up on my search yesterday. |

I can do briskets, butts, 3 beer butt chickens, or a large turkey in the large BGE. Also with a tiered rack you can stack the ribs to get more in. Usually it's just my wife and me or my son and his family of 6 and the large is sufficient. Like I said above the XL can handle large groups but if you are not cooking for a crowd it is a lot of cooker. I think if you go smaller you will regret it.

Yeah that’s the one I linked on page 1. |

The guy behind the guy
| I went with Kamado Joe. When I researched both, I really can't find a single reason why someone would buy a Green Egg over the Joe.
The accessories and hinge on the Joe are vastly superior.
Whichever one you buy, BUY A LOOFLIGHTER!!!! It will change your life! Seriously though, they are amazing. I had never heard of them until a thread here in the Lounge and I gave one a try. It's around $80 from Amazon, but it's the best way to start your smoker that I've tried to date. |
