I call BS that the average cost of a Nursing Home in the US is $188/day. My mother now lives in a nursing home (after having stints with home health care and memory care facilities over the last four or five years) and her costs is +- $300/day or about 9k/month. Besides, there is no comparison b/w a nursing home and a holiday inn....at all.

Maybe he is just being casual with the terminology. What I think he must mean is "Independent Living". If so then, Ok....$188/day sounds about right and the idea is feasible.


This is right. It’s the article title that’s incorrect. It’s not a nursing home. I guess it’s a retirement home where nursing care isn’t needed. Even at 12K a month you can’t get 24 hour nursing care.

It's a no contract option. And many retirement homes/memory care units have no full time nurse. They took my MIL via ambulance 1 block to the ER many times before she died. Hell, they took her there for heartburn.

I almost think you would be better off at a Holiday Inn.

I have seen the neglect and BS that goes in at nursing homes. Most could give two shits about you until your insurance, Medicare, or family money stops coming in. And, from what I seen they are more than happy to call the ambulance for any reason rather than give medical attention. Hotel staff can do that for you.
