Slept for about 12 hours last night. Woke up feeling like a million bucks. Had energy all day, was in a good mood, got a lot done. I usually only get 4 maybe 5 hours, and those aren't good hours, sleeping like ass, waking up, and trying to go back to sleep. I slept 12 good hours, no waking up at all. I am usually tired all day and groggy come 3pm ish. Is this how normal people feel every day? Cause I could get used to it. Now if I could just do it. Don't weep for the stupid, or you will be crying all day

Wouldn't know as I've lived a whole bunch of my life getting the same 4 or 5 crappy hours a night you mentioned. I can agree that it does totally suck. A few weeks ago, I worked almost the entire weekend pushing a shovel moving dirt around, and by Sunday night I was spent. Went to bed by 9pm and slept soundly all the way through to 7am the next morning. Thought I'd won the lotto. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. What did you do differently? I'll sleep 4 or 5 hours and then go to the bathroom, lay awake for the next few hours. If I don't have to go anywhere, I'll eventually fall into oversleep and have super weird dreams. But then wake up tired from...?

Same here and that's with sleeping pills. Wake up by 5 to 5:30 and refuse to get out of bed till 7. Guess 20 years of leave house by 4:20am ruined my body. I have to stay up till at least 11:45 at night.

I tried over the counter sleeping pills twice. I was in a fog until the middle of the afternoon the next day. The cure is worse in my case. _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!

I normally sleep well, but 2-3 nights a month I'll wake up at 2-3am and can't fall back asleep. Tonight is one of those nights.

I usually go to sleep around 1:30 but I wake up at 3/3:30, if not a dialysis day I take a nap after I fix and eat my breakfast (usually 2/3 hours) then rinse and repeat the next day. Part of that is due to arthritis pain, I don’t like the way that pain pills make me feel so I only take them when the pain is unbearable (usually during a arthritis flare).

As far as going to sleep, sometimes your mind races and goes in to overdrive while your body wants to rest. My doc put me on low dose of Xanax at night. This, along with listening to a boring podcast, allows me to go to sleep. I also use a CPAP machine due to severe apnea. ----------------------------------------------------------- TCB all the time...

Same here 4-5 hrs and when the occasional 8 good sleep comes it's nice. I do have something to take when it's really important that I sleep but it's walking a tight rope because it can become a crutch I don't want. No meat, coffee, tea or milk products after 8 helps but it's hard to do since I live mostly late hrs after years of evening & night work. Listening to tv that I don't have to look at helps shut out the mind wandering. It sounds like many ppl suffer this same way.

Have you been tested for Sleep Apnea? I did a sleep study approximately 18 months ago and was diagnosed with severe apnea. I now use a CPAP machine and my sleep is greatly improved. I still have the occasional sleepless night, but it's usually if I'm stuffed up and can't breathe through my nose. One of the biggest things I noticed with the CPAP is I no longer wake up 2-3 times a night to pee. The adrenaline dump associated with apnea is hard on your kidneys, etc. I'd suggest getting tested if you haven't already done so.

Same here. After 5 hrs I wake up. Sometimes after 3 hours...those nights REALLY suck. -------- After the game, the King and the pawn go into the same box.

Why don’t you fix your little problem and light this candle |
A friend of mine went to a sleep clinic for diagnosis. After a few hours they got him up and ended the study. Apnea was not letting him sleep more than a few minutes at a time. They fitted him for a mask and let him go back to sleep. He got 7 hours straight. He said the next day was almost out of body. He had so much energy and everything was in crystal clear focus. He uses the machine to this day. This business will get out of control. Before getting a CPAP for treating apnea I went through the same struggle. Sleep for 4-5 hours, wake up and go pee, then toss and turn until time to get up. Almost never got back to sleep, unless almost time to get up. With the CPAP I sleep anywhere from 7-10 hours straight. I've found that I didn't wake up because I wanted to pee. I wanted to pee just because I was awake. This was life altering for me (and likely life extending).

hello darkness my old friend |
I get 4 to 4.5 hours of sleep a night. It is not good sleep. I seem to wake up every half an hour. I can't remember the last time i was well rested. My ENT is pushing to go to a sleep lab. Maybe its worth a try...

Do No Harm, Do Know Harm |
I love sleep. I am best with right at 8 hours. Any more and my back starts to get sore. Less than 7 and I'm tired. My challenge at the moment is my wonky work schedule. I had to teach this afternoon and then re-qualify with a rifle this evening. Got home at 10:30pm. I'm supposed to be at work tomorrow at 8:30am, and will work until midnight. It's 12:10 in the morning at the moment, and I need to wake up at 6:30am. This is better than when I used to work two jobs, with one being 24+ hour EMS shifts. F that noise...never again. I think I actually worked my life away for about a decade. Doing my best to make up for all that. And if I get less than 6.5 hours or so, I feel drugged the next morning...a physical pain, like a hangover. Tomorrow will start out rough. But more nights than not, I get my 8 wonderful hours. Do the sleep study. I did one in 2012. Changed my life. Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here. Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard. -JALLEN "All I need is a WAR ON DRUGS reference and I got myself a police thread BINGO." -jljones
