That was a really good read. It takes a good and fair man to admit his mistakes, and to judge others fairly. I put a hat on just so I could tip it to you.

To the member who just deleted his own post, you needn't have done so. There was nothing wrong with what you said.

Thanks, right after I hit post, read it, I wanted to change it and got caught on a business call, delete was the quickerist option
.
Remember that thread, Jimmy was getting hit pretty hard, and it was really uncalled for, although not unexpected.

When you interceded and Jimmy stood up for himself vs backing away I have to admit I thought "good for you Jimmy", in this case it was fully warranted that he defend himself.

As to being off limits, nobody should be off-limits to discussion, pro or con, but bullying someone clearly is different.

Para, it take a good man to admit his mistakes like you have done in this thread. It is both appreciated and heartwarming.

As for RHINOWSO and V-Tail, has anyone who knows them fairly well (I don't) reached out to let them know they're missed? And perhaps linking this thread as well?

Para,

This is your forum, not mine nor any other members/regular posters. You make the rules, we follow them.

One of the MAJOR things I love (not just "like") about your forum is that most all members here will either admit to their dumbness in a given post and defer to those who probably know more (just as your posts alludes to) or, will actually research what they posted and compare it to information when another member calls them out instead of ignorantly challenging the information (my first thought, from memory, is the thread I started about my son doing so well with day trading and certain responses regarding taxes).

My personal problem (my character flaw?) is when a person posts something stupid, will not back down and/or, will not apologize (the latter, to me, is a sign of personal character and not something I would expect).

What I personally cannot tolerate is when someone posts something so grievously wrong that the information, if followed, would likely get someone else injured or killed (especially when the poster doesn't add something like "It's a joke son, a joke I say" or, closes with "/sarcasm"). As like any of us, I do not know everything however, there are a few things I know a lot about such as; electricity, aircraft, ships, shipboard firefighting and, program management. Then toss in an extensive knowledge about competitive swimming (I was trying to make the 1980 Olympic teams for the Moscow Olympics), water polo and lifeguarding.

I have a few areas covered.

Now, with all that, I acknowledge I am that third member previously mentioned. As that member, and before your directive, I did make a couple semi-polite digs at Mr Jimmy although, one instance stands out in my mind (last year right after my hip replaced and loving on oxy). I made a comment - without mention of name or member - how there was only one person on my ignore list. Mr Jimmy was quick to take offense. That in itself made me wonder about the guy.

Finally, as noted in the first sentence of this post, this is your forum. The way which you have cultured it, culled out the a-holes, and allowed it to mature is phenomenal and; if/when future posts are made by Mr Jimmy which can result in injury or death to another reader (he's still on my ignore list so I won't see it unless another member quotes him such as; when I got the thread about the Bonny Dick burning locked), I will abide by your direction with humility and grace and use the "report" option if/when I see it.

Rhino might come back, but V-Tail probably will not. Let me tell you something I know about members coming and going in places like this. The only real control a member has is whether to stay or to remain, and if he chooses to stay, there has to be an agreement between the member and whoever runs the board. When you get right down to it, the one real power a member has is to say "I don't want to be here." Otherwise, someone else is involved with the decision. You want to stay? You have to be permitted to stay. You want to go? That's entirely up to you. V-Tail is exercising that power. When someone feels they've been treated badly enough, they won't come back. I think that's what's going on.

But, Rhino, well, we might see him again. He's a very resilient fella.

There is one extra step. If they choose to leave they also reserve the right to return. I’ve been a member here a long time...kept my nose pretty clean...part of the reason for that is, over the years, I’ve learned to take a hiatus when needed...I also actually leave threads that can get me in trouble and don’t return....the COVID thread is a perfect example of that...several months ago I said somethings in there I know pissed people off...I even had members email about what I said/..but I’ve still never seen the replies to my last post there...and I never will

I’m sorry. I’m making this about me and that wasn’t my intent. What I’m trying to say is V-tail and Rhino may yet return. Someone may even send them an email telling them about this thread in the same way some of the good people here reached out to me

I don’t own a single sig, but this is the only board I really participate in heavily. I dabble in others here and there, but this is the only one where I feel like a member of a

COMMUNITY

That’s what you, and your members, have built here

It’s why people like Yogi want to say goodbye

And why I am hopeful we may see the likes of Vtail and Rhino again

Para...whatever mistakes you may have made were done in the spirit of fairness, not maliciousness.

Running a forum like this isn't easy. It's time consuming and trying to make everyone happy isn't realistic. Feelings will get hurt occasionally.

I think most of us understand that.

I have always enjoyed the posts from the members you talked about, and I hope after they cool off they'll jump back in.
