I'm originally from Idaho but left after high school for the military. Been gone since 1986 but my family is all still there and visit regularly. We are retiring to Idaho when I retire in two years.

Boise is a nice city but one of the most liberal cities in Idaho. You're going to have a lot of the liberal issues there due to all people moving there from CA, WA and OR and other liberal places that people ran from. Unfortunately, these dumb people don't remember that their liberal polices ruined the place they ran from and vote for and introduce liberal nonsense to the place they moved to.

I'll be retiring to a more rural section of northern Idaho to avoid as much of this as possible.

That said, Idaho is a great place to call home and you'll like it there.

My father is from Indiana and retired to Texas. As others have posted, please visit during the winter to experience the snow before moving.

Wow, you should have seen it before. Mid 80's and 90's was the big rush from the North East to the Carolina's. Mostly now they've moved on to ruining Tennessee and Kentucky.

Ive never been there but it sounds like you are about 20 years too late. I’d think about just finding a few acres in a rural county in a climate you are used to.
